We was at the train station, when my mum was going to say goodbye. Father had already left for work and wished me the best at Eastwood High. Mother and Miss Nelson were with me now hugging me close, persuading and complimenting me about being able to go to boarding school.
"Charlotte dear, here's your train. Take your suitcase and go on." said Miss Nelson.
"Ugh but I can't go." I muttered. Mother looked at me worriedly and gave me a small smile. It was so emotional to get on the train and to just leave my family for a year...
"Goodbye Charlotte!" Mother and Miss Nelson screamed.
"I won't be long forever Mother! I'll be back as soon as I get excluded!" I shrieked.
My Mother and Miss Nelson frowned and hugged me once again. The train was making such a loud noise it was hard to hear them. I hopped on the train as soon as it was about to go and waved goodbye again like a maniac.
I sat down in a seat beside the window and tried not to make any eye contact with anyone on the train. A teacher with a slightly different uniform saying 'Matron' on it came to us students out of a door and told us where to go next.
"Hello everyone. It is a pleasure to see our new students at Eastwood High. We will be arriving to the building shortly. Once we arrive me and your head of form, Esme, will lead you to your rooms to leave your belongings and then you will go to the hall for an introduction assembly, where our new head girl and head boy will be leading."
Wow. Head boy and head girl? This must be a really strict and boring school then. This 'Matron' looked very dull as well. I hope she wouldn't be in charge of my dorm.
As soon as Matron walked out a tall serious looking girl with black hair and dark bangs came out.
"Hello everyone. I'm Esme and I'm going to be your head of form and one of the dormitories head. If you have any problems you can always come to me." she smiled. She seemed quite sensible and I was starting to like her as soon as she said
"Excuse me, could you please do up your tie properly for me? Thank you. And that goes for everyone. Your tie is part of your uniform and if you refuse to follow the dress code, then you are clearly not capable of staying at Eastwood High."
Yep. Already hated her.
Well its not like I was going to be here for long.
Everyone on the train started to chat and make friends. A chubby girl called Beth was handing out a box of chocolates to everyone. When it was shared out to me I shook my head.
"Oh c'mon. Its the first day! What's your name? Here take one!"
"Charlotte, but I prefer to be called Char. And no."
"Why ever not?"
"No means no, don't you get it?!" I said angrily.
"Alright then..." she hesitated.
The train had reached to its last pick up stop. Where one girl with long blonde hair and blue eyes was holding on to her mother, crying and begging her not to make her go.
"Wow someone's excited to come." a boy laughed.
He was sitting opposite me looking out the same window as me. He had brown curly hair and grey eyes and was pulling a mischievous grin.
"Yeah I don't think her mother wants her to go either." I laughed.
The girl was crying out to her mother to not leave but soon Matron came and took her to the train and let her mother say goodbye inside.
"Now, now dear. Here how about you sit at the corner." said the mother.
"You. Could you get up and sit over there please." ordered Matron.
I was taken back in shock as me and the boy was sitting at the corners. Clearly nobody was nice around here.
"No." I said.
"Excuse me? How rude of you!" Matron exclaimed.
"Oh she can sit here." said the boy while moving to sit in the next seat laughing.
The mother smiled thanking him. Still holding on to her daughter.
"Mother. No. Please don't leave me here." the blonde girl cried.
"Now Gen dear. I will call you every week, don't you worry. Try and make new friends okay." she gave Gen a quick peck on the forehead when Matron tried to get her off the train. By now the train chuffed and the mother looked so sad walking away seeing her daughter crying in her ruffled tissues sniffing like a dog.
As the train got off, the boy started asking questions straight away."
"Hi." he said. "My names Harry, what's yours."
There was a slight pause.
"Genevieve." she whispered.
"Hey Genevieve. I love your name." Beth barged in. "Want a chocolate?"
Genevieve just glared at her.
"So why were you crying?" asked Harry.
"I don't want to leave my home. I was happy there and so was Mother."
"Then why would your mother make you go?" I asked.
"It wasn't her. It was father."
Harry and I shared a look.
I could understand why she was so upset since I didn't want to leave my home either, but she was just a typical girl.
"So...why are you here at Eastwood then?" asked Harry.
"To improve my attitude." I said with a sigh.
"Ha. Same here. We aren't really that posh like you lot, but my dad said I had no option to come here and actually learn something, otherwise he would disown me and get me kicked out of his house."
"Oh. What about your mother?"
He grinned. "Mother has always been on my side for everything. She will probably be the only one checking up on me here."
"Well that's nice."
Me and Harry started talking. To be completely honest with you. He was the only person I actually liked here at Eastwood High. It was a shame that we would have no classes together or share dorms, as girls and boys were separated here."
