CHAPTER SIX
HUMANS

It was finally dinner time. The time everyone had been looking forward to. It felt like forever since Mercredi had gotten to sit at a table to eat a real meal. She was thrilled. The homemade bread and vegetables smelt delicious, while the meat did smell a little off she was still feeling grateful that someone even cooked for them.

Faint running could be heard just outside the dining room. The sound-making Mercredi look up from her plate and to Lee who had rushed into the room. He looked pale, uneasy, shocked, and sick. What was wrong?

"Don't eat that!" He yelled. Clementine dropped her fork onto her plate. The other people in the room stopped as well in response to his sudden shouting. "Lee, Jesus, man! Did you find something?" Kenny asked. "Sit your ass down, Lee. This lady has made you a meal." Larry growled at him. "Yeah Lee, what's gotten into you?" "Mark is upstairs with his fucking legs cut off! You're EATING him." Lee announced.

What? Mercredi looked down at her plate a sick feeling coming over her. While she knew that the meat seemed a little off she would've never guessed that it was human meat. What was wrong with these people?!

"You're scaring the kids, Lee," Kenny told him. "Lee, what the hell is wrong with you?!" Lilly asked. "Don't indulge him, Lilly. It's always something with this guy." Larry told her. "Everything coulda turned out okay for you folks." Dan quietly spoke up. "He woulda' died anyway! We gotta think about LIVIN'!" Andy added. "Settle down, honey." Brenda said to her son. "Growin' up in rural Georgia, you're taught not to waste. It's how I was raised and how I raised my boys. Now, you got monsters roamin' around that do nothin' but eat people. And for what? To continue to rot til' they eat some more."

"You're all sick...sick in the head." Lee said. "Lee, that's not a very nice thing to imply. Andy was right; we go after folks who were gonna die anyway, one way or another." Brenda said. "Like ya'll." Dan added. "Kenny, get your gun!" Lee said to him. "Kenny, no!" Katjaa said grabbing onto his arm when he stood up from the table.

Mercredi flinched as she heard a few guns click around her. Both Andy and Dan St'John pointing their guns around at the group. Everyone had begun to panic. Talking over one another. Everyone just wanted to leave this situation.

"Everyone. Everything will be okay!" Lee assured. And as much as Mercredi wanted to believe that, believe him. She just couldn't be sure he was right. "Lee! Lee...!" Clementine said fearfully. She then let out a pained scream. Her hand being ripped from Mercredi's as she was pulled back out of her seat by Andy who held a tight grip on her hair. Mercredi turned to help her, but she froze her movements when his gun was aimed directly at her.

"I'll kill you!" Lee yelled storming over. Stopping when Dan shoved his gun in his face. There was a tumble that could be heard coming from the stairs. The group looked over watching with horrified looks as Mark dragged himself into view. Long lines of blood followed him, coming from the stumps where his legs used to be.

"PLLLEEEASE...SOMEONE...!" Mark groaned.

There was audible and visible shock left on everyone. The sickly sight leaving a lasting impression. "Clementi-"

Mercredi held her knees flush to her chest. Her chin resting on them as she rocked herself lightly. She wasn't sure how long they had been stuck in this meat locker, but it was too long. The strong scent of the many salt licks beside her was almost making her as sick as Lilly. Who had been throwing up in the corner every now and then.
