Emma's POV

"He did what?!" I pulled my phone away from my ear immediately upon hearing Beth's loud screech.

"Still have a good impression on him?" I sarcastically asked. I thoroughly flipped through the rack of clothes, not feeling as satisfied as I usually feel when I go shopping. I strolled around the store leisurely, not finding any of the things on the shelves attractive.

"Well, maybe it was just a misunderstanding."

"Because it was a fucking misunderstanding!" I vented out my frustration. A female customer few feet away from me gave me a weird stare before resuming her own business. I did the same, moving onto the next rack of dresses.

For the past few days since our dinner together, I was not really myself. Usually, I was not the super sensitive type of person but I was clearly offended by how he viewed me as such. How could he accuse me of such a thing when he didn't even give me a chance to explain properly to him? I barely knew Ethan, and now I'm classified as a cheater. Well, that's just a nice start to our soon-to-be-made marriage pact.

My phone's ringtone rang in the midst of our conversation. "Hold on, I'm getting another call."

I took a look at the screen to check who was the caller but to find out it was an unknown number. Without thinking much, I swiped the green button and answered the call, "Hello?"

A deep, husky voice spoke through the phone, "Are you busy now?"

The dress I was holding slipped off my fingers and dropped onto the floor. Immediately, I recognized the identity of the caller although he did not introduce himself. "No." I replied coldly.

"Are you at home?"

"No."

There was an awkward pause before he resumed, "My mother would like to meet you now if possible. I'll pick you up. Where are you?"

The leftover salty feelings I had since our supposedly romantic dinner remained. My teeth clenched together hard as I tried to restrict myself from cursing at him.

"Text me the address. I'll drive there myself, so I don't disrupt your work." I snapped, anger slowly bubbling up as I remembered him saying before that he had to leave his work unattended just to see and inform me about the previous stupid date. With that, I ended the call and connect the line back to Beth.

"Who was that earlier?"

"Some rude jerk."

A kid's whine was heard in the background, fussing over peanut butter and jelly sandwich and Beth started cooing to him in a hushed tone. "Hey, I gotta go, kid's making a huge mess in the kitchen right now."

I raised my eyebrow, "Since when you babysit?"

"Sweetie, I need to earn a living even though it is just temporary unlike you, getting married to a filthy rich dude. Plus, my neighbor pays me good money."

I laughed, before bidding farewell and our conversation ended. A notification popped up the screen and sure enough, an unknown number sent me a text of an address. This guy's number was not even worth saving into my contacts but just for in case, I did so anyway.
