Hey guys! So I've been hoarding parts of this story for the longest time and I think it is about time that I just put it out there.

Enjoy :)

Ps. Reminder: this is a rough draft, so there will be mistakes. KEEP THAT IN MIND. <3

Mina Hayes slowly ran her index finger along the thin edge of a book's page ready for the moment her eyes trailed to the last word when the thin skin of her finger gave out. Hissing as the pain of the paper cut set in, she flipped the page violently out of irritation.

As much as she wanted to say that her room was peaceful the warmth that was streaming in from the window was oddly intense. It bounced off the stuffy air that swarmed around in the room making the environment slightly uncomfortable and thus forced Mina to shift awkwardly in her dress while trying to ignore the paper cut sting.

She glanced over to her left to check the time when the theme of Star Trek blasted into the stuffy air slicing the silence like a sharp knife.

With narrowed eyes, Mina mentally slapped herself for being careless. The ringing phone was half across her massive room and excessive movement wasn't something she wanted to do at that very moment. She let out a little irritated groan, which was followed by the formation of a frown.

Mina picked up the discarded bookmark and carefully placed it in the book spine's ridge. She then proceeded to crawl - while grumbling incoherent words under her breath - to accept her call. Just as her cool fingers wrapped around the warmish plastic the music ended and the room went quiet.

"Serio-" She was about to question when the music started up again. With a quick glance at the name on the screen she pressed accept and placed the phone's earpiece to her ear.

"Hey Ally," she said with a tone that was harsher than intended.

"Did you wake up on the wrong side of the bed or something?"

Her friend Ally Black hadn't used an accusing tone but Mina flinched as guilt set in.

"Sorry."

"Lighten up Mi," Ally replied with a light hearted laugh, "I was beginning to think that you passed out or something. Mina, you do realize that the whole goal of a call is to pick up the phone before it stops ringing right?"

Mina smiled at that comment and swept the guilt filled thoughts to the back of her mind. "I'm well aware of that fact."

There was another laugh in the earpiece. "I just though I would remind you just in case a book fell off one of one of the massive shelves in that massive library of yours. Are you even in the library?"

Mina allowed herself to grin. Oh the library. Not only was it her favourite room of the manor, but it the only room that hadn't undergone an update since the building of the house. So it possessed all the old, but beautiful, architectural quirks of the 1800s.

"Nope. In the bedroom."

"Ugh, don't even mention that. I would honestly kill for your room. Your whole house actually. Did I ever mention that you have like the best house ever?"

If Mina allowed the grin on her face to grow even more she honestly would think that her face would split. "You've mentioned it, oh you know, maybe like a thousand million times?"

She pushed herself up from the floor and then stepped into the hall allowing the coolness of the air conditioned air engulf her warm body. Though she had lived in the Hayes' Manor for her whole life, it never failed to amaze her.
