20 Aldabella Vanni's Little Secret

Every year, to celebrate the beginning of Spring, our town holds a big fair called Ala Fair in the middle of March. I used to go to the fair every year when I was little, but since then it has gotten boring for me. The rides are all the same. The clowns are all the same. The booths are all the same. Even the fireworks at night are all the same.

But now, I, Lira Treviso am at the Ala Fair again. Except, this time, I'm going incognito.

My partner in crime? A beautiful boy named Wintar Cammin.

I will blend into the crowd until I am no more…

I will be invisible and you'll hear the slightest of whisper and say, "Who's that?"

Then you'll turn…

But no one is there.

And I'll laugh a silent laugh.

Because I know…

I'm there.

I'm just incogni—

"What are you doing?" an authoritative voice asks.

Crap.

I take one last look at Jeff and Aldabella who are walking further and further away from me.

"Can I see your ticket?"

I turn around and a hefty man is standing in front me.

"Ticket?" I say innocently.

I'm incognito! I don't need no ticket!

"You can't get in without a ticket," the man says.

"Oh, well," I try to explain my temporary spy position, "I'm supposed to be inco—"

"Here," answers a calm voice.

A beautiful hand appears in front of me holding two tickets.

I guess even the incognito need to purchase tickets.

The man takes the tickets, stamps both of our hands, and we head inside.

"Did you keep an eye on Jeff and Alda?" Wintar asks me as we walk through the gates.

I shudder a bit because his voice is so close to my ear. It can't be helped though with the amount of people crammed together.

"Yes, sir," I answer. "They went that way." I point ahead.

"That'll do pig," Wintar says with a small chuckle. "That'll do."

I shoot Wintar an extremely quick look of anger. Fast enough that his beauty doesn't enrapture me.

For almost an hour we follow Jeff and Aldabella wandering around the fair, but they do nothing interesting. I'm getting bored and I think Wintar is getting bored too since he's starting to slouch.

"Jeff looks so uninterested," I say leaning against the wall of a fenced-in playground.

Aldabella points at a basketball booth with large stuffed animals hanging at the top. Jeff shrugs, but pays for a basketball. He makes no effort to aim the ball into the hoop as he tosses it.

"Yeah," Wintar says leaning next to me. "Aldabella better keep it up then."

I tilt my head, confused. "What are you talking about?"

Wintar shrugs. "Nothing."

We're quiet for a while.

"You've gotten much better, you know," Wintar suddenly says.
