It had become a tradition for Venus to walk to the bakery every single morning

It had become a tradition for Venus to walk to the bakery every single morning. The same one, walking the same way, and getting the same thing. She'd get her croissant, say hi to Marco behind the counter, and try to order in Italian, though she never got it right. However, she loved trying each time. This morning was no different from all the rest. Venus was humming a song under her breath, smiling at someone she recognised as her neighbours downstairs, and they smiled right back. She walked into the bakery, seeing the old man behind the counter again. He gave her a grin, wiping the sweat off his forehead with a handkerchief.

"Buongiorno, Marco."

"Buongiorno, Venus." He put the handkerchief in his pocket, leaning his hands against the surface before him. "What would you like today?"

"Hmm," she mused, pretending to be thinking it over as she made her way toward him. "Think I'll just have my croissant, please."

Marco got to work, picking up a paper bag and getting her a croissant. "You need to try some Italian food one day."

Venus sighed, nodding her head ever so slightly. He was very right. She had been to a few restaurants, but she hadn't eaten anything but pizza. Though Italy was known for pizza and pasta, she knew there was tons of other foods to try as well. She just hadn't gotten to it yet. And she needed to. What was the point of being in Italy and not doing anything about it? She needed to broaden her horizons.

"What do you suggest?" She asked, watching as he placed the bag carefully on the counter between them.

"Schiacciata first."

She furrowed her brows. "What's that?"

"A type of Tuscan bread. You sprinkle olive oil and salt on top and mix the dough with herbs. It is fantastic." Marco's eyes sparkled a bit, talking about baked goods really made him show a brighter sort of happiness.

"Like focaccia?"

His face fell. "You don't compare food."

Venus blinked, nodding her head twice. "Would you serve me that then? Or would I have to go to someone else?"

"I'll make you." Marco smiled, all forgotten about Venus's comment only seconds earlier. He handed her the croissant as she gave him the euros for it.

"You're too kind."

"I don't wanna lose a customer. I'll make."

Venus laughed at that, shaking her head as she started turning around to leave. "I'll see you around, Marco." As she reached the door however, Marco's voice sounded from behind her again.

"My son is getting married next month."

She glanced over her shoulder, a bit taken aback by the sudden comment. "How wonderful. In Fosdinovo?"
