[Demon POV]
It had only been a few hours since I scared off my beloved. I felt weak without them here, near me. Next to me. I wanted to badly to touch them. I heard steps approaching, they weren't light and quick like my beloved. They were hefty, booted steps. I knew the sound well, the scars on my body did, too. My ears pinned back slightly, and my eyes felt strained as the light of the door peaked open as the gate creaked open.
They grabbed the chains that held me, and began to drag me. I knew the routine, I walked along with them. I could try and kill them, but that would risk never being able to see my beloved again.
As I got dragged into the large Coliseum of an area. The fence was tall, and sloped in such a way as to not let anyone escape the blood bath that was to ensue. My ears perked forward as I saw the victim I was to fight.
He was scrawny, armed with nothing but a knife.
Oh, how bad I felt for them. They had to fight me, and as soon as they realized, they seemed to shift from their stance into a much more skittish one. Their marble eyes seemed to narrow.
I stepped towards them, my chains anchored to the ground a few feet behind me, restricting my movements. I narrowed my gaze, and snarled at the human before me. They were marked with, 'Thief' on their left arm. They held the knife with their right hand. That's when I noticed a smell, the scent was very enticing. I turned my head in the direction of its creation. It was my beloved, she was speaking to the king. I overheard some of their words and soon realized that my beloved was actually royalty.
My heart did a strange pitter-patter. My tail swished in an almost playful manner. I was going to fight for my beloved's entertainment. And that sprung me into action.
The human ran at me, knife in hand, going to slash my arm. I let him, all just so I could then grab him by the neck and pierce his windpipe with my sharp claws. The metallic, red liquid oozed out of his pierced skin. He coughed up blood, staring me down as I held him up for all to see him die. He sputtered, and then went limp and stiff. Dead.
I smirked, and took a huge chunk of his arm and tossed him by the bone. I then pulled the knife out of my arm and licked it. The taste was nothing like the human's blood.
I frowned at this and tossed the knife to the side and looked to where my beloved was, only to find she was disgusted, afraid really. I smirked. The king sent her away, and I felt an anger wash over me. I began to pull against the chains. Everyone watching seemed to get worried and upset as one of the chain's holds came lose, I suddenly realized... I had broken the chain with just a soft tug. And soon. I did the same with the other. The guards came down from their posts, they had Lances and shields, and encircled me. Pointing the sharp edges directly at me. Threatening me. My beloved was no longer up next to the king. I had no clue where she was.
So I let the guards drag me back into my holding room. They cut me, hit me with batons, and the blunt ends of the spears. They hit me and hit me until I could hardly move.
That's when I saw my beloved through my blurry, red vision.
One of the guards asked her to heal me, and that's when I learned her name. "Skylark, heal him." They commanded her. I felt this anger wash over me, but I saw this soft glow come from her hands as she gently touched my wounds they healed within seconds. Leaving nothing but small, almost invisible scars. I stared up at her before just slinking to the ground.
She seemed to get worried, she cared about a monster like me? How pitiful.
After I had been healed, and the guards checked me, she left. Possibly to talk to her father... or worse. Leave me here once more with the guards. But they too, left.
And that's when I heard it, the sound of water. I watched as my beloved stepped towards me merely an hour later, a large bucket in hand, they were struggling to carry it.
They set the bucket down in front of me, fresh water. I nearly tipped the bucket over as I launched towards it, gulping down water. I hadn't had water in a few days, if not weeks. I felt my strength growing. I looked up, water drenched face to look at Skylar. My beloved, why are you so sad? She was on the edge of tears. Was it because of me? I didn't want her to be sad. I wanted her to smile at me, look at me the way I looked at her.
"Why are you crying?"I asked, I really did want to know. I wanted to hurt those that hurt her. I wanted to protect her and make her mine.
"My father... He told me to kill you... to poison you, but I couldn't bring myself to do it. He said if I didn't... he'd throw me down here to be eaten by you.." She spoke with a soft, almost broken voice. I smirked softly, this was perfect. I could protect her easier if she stayed here at my side. But the thought of this hurting her so much, of her own father sending her to suffer. I nearly went into a blind rage but her soft breathing as she sat down in front of me. I knew what she wondered, and I answered it without hesitation, "I would have eaten you earlier, the few days before when you came to me with the deer meat. But I hesitated. Your beauty is unmatched by any I have seen. And the thought of your own father betraying you.. I would kill him if you merely asked."
She froze at the words, her eyes wide. She shook her head, "No, no.. I love my father.. but I'm afraid he doesn't love me back. He wanted a son, but his wife passed away after giving birth to me. He didn't want to keep me."
At these words, I wanted to tear the king apart.
I wanted to reach out to her, and hold her. I wanted to reassure her that as mine she would be protected from everything. But I held my tongue, and watched her.
That's when I heard the yelling outside, and gates opening and getting blinded by the bright light. It was...
