“Her eyes are a glowing light green, and her hair is blue.”
Erika blinked. “What?” she asked her sister.
Lizzy repeated her statement. Then she watched her sister’s face carefully. “You’ve seen something too, haven’t you?”
Erika nodded slowly. “At school…when it was break time. Her eyes changed colors for a split second.”
“I told you!” Lizzy said lowly.
“Why does she look like she doesn’t have green eyes and blue hair?”
“She’s obviously not from this planet. It’s probably a cover. We should find out where she is from, and what her people are like, in case of an invasion. We should also stock up, in case we have to hide.” Lizzy said all this matter-of-factly.
“Maybe we’re just crazy,” Erika muttered, taking the drinks back to the guests.
Tari had just taken a sip of her juice when she looked up at the clock. “Oh, is that the time?” She put down her cup. “I must go.” She stood.
“Do you have to?” Erika and Zoey asked.
“Yes.”
“Okay, then. It was nice having you here. Bye,” Erika said.
“Bye,” Zoey added.
“Goodbye,” Tari said, and left.
There was some silence, then Lizzy sat down where Tari had sat. “Zoey, did you notice anything…odd about her?” she asked.
“Not at all, why?” Zoey responded.
“You don’t see either,” Lizzy muttered.
“What are you talking about?”
“I’m talking about possible invasion! About avoiding it! So we don’t all end up dead or something!”
Zoey looked at Erika. “How much TV does she watch?” she asked.
“A lot, but that doesn’t matter,” Lizzy answered for her sister. “I’m serious about the possible invasion.”
“What invasion?”
Lizzy pointed to the door which Tari had just exited. “She is not from this planet. She has blue hair and green, glowing eyes! I swear!”
Zoey shook her head. “You watch too much TV.”
“You know what, I’ll prove it! I’ll gather evidence. This shall not go down unknown!”
Zoey shook her head again.
“Why are we here again?” Zoey asked the next afternoon.
She, Erika, and Lizzy were in a field near the school. Trees obscured the view of the school and vice versa. None of them saw anything special. Lizzy claimed to have seen Tari come from this area on the way to school.
“To prove to you that she is not from this planet,” Lizzy said, peering at the empty space.
“There’s nothing—”
“Shh!”
There was a rustling nearby. All three girls froze.
They quietly glanced around and saw Tari. She walked to the middle of the completely empty field and looked around. She paused when her eyes rested on the large bush that the three girls hid behind, though she didn’t see them. She swiftly left.
“She saw us!” Lizzy said on the walk home. “I know it!”
“She probably just walks through there on the way to school,” Zoey said. “Big deal.”
“I got it!” Lizzy exclaimed, causing both Erika and Zoey to jump. She turned to Erika. “Do you still got that camcorder Aunt Ada sent you?”
“Yes, why?” Erika asked.
“Excellent! I need to use it!”
“What for?”
“Proof! Now where is it?”
“In the bottom drawer of my dresser but—”
Lizzy had already dashed to Erika’s room. She got the camcorder and came back. “We need to put this where we were hiding!”
“If you say so…,” Erika said, doubtful.
