The streetlights gleamed overhead like stars in the night sky as the pair walked together down the busy streets of New York City.
"So, what do you do for a living?" Jungkook smiled at Taehyung, looking up at him and weaving past a crowd of tourists.
"I'm an author, actually," Taehyung chuckled softly, "I was offered a job here in New York I couldn't possibly turn down, so I packed my bags and flew here from my home country."
"Ah, that must be rough—" He smiled softly at the man next to him, "--leaving your family and friends behind to start a new life, that is."
"A little, yes..." Taehyung let his words fade off, a comfortable, not-quite-awkward silence settling between the two.
Around the corner was a quaint little shop with a sweet aroma seeping from the cracked windows. The smell was overwhelming and made Taehyung drool—especially when he noticed the pastries lining the shelves on the inside.
"Our first destination is the best bakery in town," Jungkook smiled softly, "They don't get enough business, in my opinion—their goods are the best in New York."
"Ah, okay," Taehyung replied with a boxy smile, which made Jungkook's smile stretch even wider, "What should I order? Since you've been here before."
"I recommend the banana milk for a beverage and one of their muffins, which are delicious, might I add!" He replied, holding the door open for the older as they walked into the shop's warmth.
They approached the counter, Jungkook guiding Taehyung while he looked around in awe. The cozy shop was dimly lit, the walls littered with small decals and photos of the city. In the front corner sat the counter alongside the open-concept warming trays that kept the pastries warm as customers ordered. In the corners of the shop sat people of different ages; some working behind a laptop, their eyes unwavering from the illuminated screen in front of them, and others there to enjoy the company of their friends as they enjoyed their food.
"I'll pay, order what you want," Taehyung offered as they approached the counter, "My thanks for taking me out tonight."
"Oh—you don't have to do that, hyung," Jungkook shuffled his feet. "I don't want to take your money!"
"It's not taking your money if I'm willing to pay for you."
Jungkook pouted, looking away from Taehyung, "Fine! But I'm paying at our next place."
Taehyung nodded, not wanting to argue with the younger. He let Jungkook order first, then just asked for what Jungkook ordered. The prices weren't too bad for the city, in his opinion, especially since Jungkook had said that it was one of the best bakeries in the city. Once they were given their order, they found a window seat in the front of the café which overlooked the city street.
"I can see why you like this place," He smiled as he tried the banana milk, a smile spreading across his face like the sun coming from behind a cloud on a rainy day, "This is pretty good!"
"I know, right!" Jungkook replied loudly, excited. Once he realized others had turned towards him and shot him glares like daggers, he lowered his voice with an embarrassed chuckle. "I'm glad you like this place, too."
"I might have to come here when I'm writing, it seems peaceful, very quaint," Taehyung tore a small piece off of his muffin and popped it into his mouth, savoring the sweet flavor. "I've been looking for a spot that I can write without distractions, and this definitely seems like a place I can go that's outside of the penthouse."
"I'm glad you think this place could be your quiet place to think—does it inspire you?" He asked, looking up to the man with his doe-like eyes that gleamed under the dim lighting.
