I stared at his face and rolled my eyes.
My mother's eyes widened in shock, "Emily! That is no way to treat our guests"
"Yeah, Emily" Cody mimicked
I stuck my tongue out at him and turned to our guests.
"I apologize for my rude behavior. I'm Emily, and my twin brother," I pointed at Cody, "Is Cody"
The mom laughed, "You are completely fine, my sons can be twenty times worse. I'm Trish and these are my two sons. Austin's the one who looks like a Halloween cat, and Blake's-"
Blake interrupted her, "I'm the one who looks like a can climb through someone's window at 1 AM"
I put on a fake smile and walked toward the kitchen, pulling Cody with me. As soon as we got into the kitchen he glared at me. I was really confused about why he was so mad about this whole Lukas situation. It was seriously just a joke, but he didn't give me the chance to tell him. Was he jealous that I was with a guy other than him? Did he think he was going to be replaced?
I completely forgot about Cody and looked up to meet the intense gaze of Austin.
"So you're the girl that Blake spent the night with... He said you were hot and that 'I couldn't talk to you or whatever'. But I don't listen to my brother. After all, I'm older"
He started walking toward me and I started backing up. I realized I was in a very difficult situation and I had zero clue to what was going to happen. I was frozen in shock, being scanned up and down by Austin. He caged me in and that's when I lost it.
I kicked him where the sun doesn't shine and pushed him off of me. I knew I'd regret that later, but right now I was not in the mood. I was running up to my room when I bumped into a wall... or at least I thought it was a wall. I looked up and saw Blake all tense. I mumbled a sorry and tried to get past him but it wasn't working.
"Can you please move out of my way?"
He looked deep in thought, "Hmm. What do I get out of it?"
"You don't have to face the same fate as your brother"
His expression dropped, "What are you talking about?"
"I don't know, go see for yourself"
This time he pushed passed me and I was relieved. I made my way to my room but was stopped by my mom yelling that it was time for dinner. I didn't want to see Austin or Blake, I just wanted to paint.
I trudged down the stairs to find that the only seat open was next to Austin. I knew he wouldn't be an idiot and try something, so I naturally sucked it up and sat. I looked around and saw everyone's eyes on me. I made a questioning face but it soon subsided when Blake's voice rang out.
"Move"
I rolled my eyes, "Blake, I'm sitting and I want to eat. Can't you just go back to your seat?"
He tensed and repeated himself, "Move"
I was in shock. Who was he to tell me where I can and cannot sit.
"Blake, honey, go back to your seat. I don't know what's gotten into you but we all want to eat" His mother said
Blake balled his fist and clenched his jaw, but sat down anyway. The whole dinner the moms were chatting but us teens ignored each other until the doorbell rang. I was about to get up and get it but Cody beat me to it. In about a minute he came back and gave me a small yet sad smile.
"Em, it's for you"
I got up and walked outside to see a sitting Lukas with his back facing me. I plopped down next to him and lay my head on his shoulder. This felt like home, Luke was my home. We sat in silence until he finally spoke.
"I'm sorry"
"For what?" I asked him
"Throwing a temper tantrum when you said that Blake kid was cuter than me"
I laughed and he glared.
"I was joking Lukas. You already know you're my one and only" I kissed his cheek
He lifted my head and patted the step below him. I sat and leaned on him while he played with my hair. We were just outside. Silent in nature and smiling like five-year-olds. We both hated it when we fought. For us, it felt like we lost half of ourselves.
"Mom said Lukas can come in. She told me next time we have guests I get to bring Daylin" Cody said.
We walked to the dining room and the whole atmosphere had changed. Everyone was laughing and having fun. Was I the problem? Like Lukas already knew what I was thinking, he intertwined our hands and gave me a reassuring squeeze. I looked up and gave him a grateful smile. We were always like this, two peas in a pod.
My mom looked up at us and smiled. She had no clue what happened, but I guess she knew I didn't invite Lukas. I had a feeling Cody had pulled her aside and explained. She gave me a look that said, "We'll talk later" and I nodded.
My mom started talking again, "So Trish, this is Lukas"
Trish was beaming, "Oh my gosh! You two make such a cute couple!"
I sighed and jabbed Lukas, "This is Lukas Hartwort" I pointed as I introduced them, "And Lukas meet Austin and Blake"
At the mention of Blake, I felt Lukas tense. I watched as the two had a glaring battle and I just laughed. Sometimes Lukas could be so overprotective of me. I guess so many years of friendship does that to a person. He let go of my hand and shook Austins. When he reluctantly held out his hand for Blake, he ignored him. Blake's mom gave him a look and he shook Lukas' hand. When Luke finished, he came right back to my side. He intertwined our hands again and I leaned into him.
All the sudden, we head a chair scrape and noticed Blake getting up.
"Blake, honey, are you okay?" His mom asked
"No" he replied through gritted teeth, "I'm not"
Austin seemed like he knew what was going on and smirked, "Why?"
The two had some sort of mind conversation and Blake looked like he was getting madder by the second.
Blake looked straight at me and stated, "You're coming with me"
I felt Lukas stiffen, "She doesn't have to do anything, she barely even knows you"
I laughed, "I can do whatever I want, and I choose to stay right here"
Blake scoffed, "Emily, I want to talk to you"
I sighed and looked at Lukas, "I'll be fine Bubs"
He glared at Blake, and his face softened one he looked at me, "But Emillyyyy" he whined
"We're just going outside. Stop being a dick" Blake said
That's when Lukas lost it, "What did you call me?"
"A dick"
I could feel Lukas starting to move and I held him back. I whispered in his ear, "Lukey, I'll be fine. We're just going outside and if you're that worried, you can watch us through my window"
He nodded and I let go. He gave me a hug, I have no clue why and I glared at Blake.
I started walking to the door when I heard Blake.
He muttered, "Whipped"
I shooed Lukas to my room before anything happened and looked at Blake.
"If we're going to talk, let's go"
