Chapter Four
-----
The day could not go by any slower for Kiera. It seemed that no matter what she did, it just kept dragging. She woke up three whole hours before she normally did on a Tuesday morning, all because she couldn't sleep because of the anticipation of that night. She went for a run, it felt like she had gone for an eternity; it was really only twenty minutes.
And still there were seven hours to go.
And she just wished they would go by quicker.
"Come on, come on, come on," she muttered to herself, fidgeting, "Can't time go by just a little bit faster?"
"Talking to yourself now Kia?"
She whipped around.
"Shut up Tony!"
"What's got you so fidgety?"
"What do you think?" she questioned back, tapping her foot lightly on the ground.
"I think you're a little more excited about tonight than you want to let everyone else know you are."
"No, I'm not. I'm just bored."
"Liar."
"I'm not lying."
"Yes, you are," he told her with a smirk, "When you lie you can't look the person you're lying to in the eyes, plus, your eyes crinkle up and you squint when you're lying also."
She picked her head up and looked him in the eyes. "I am not lying." She smiled brightly. "See? I was able to tell you I wasn't lying and look you in the eyes."
He shook his head and chuckled, "You still crinkled your eyes and squinted."
"Tony!" she warned.
"Fine, fine, fine," he replied, raising his arms in surrender, "I give up, even if you were lying."
"Good," she beamed, "Now, what are you doing in my room?"
"I came to see if you wanted to go to lunch," he said, walking back towards the door, "But I can see I'm interrupting your quality being lazy and bored time."
She perked up. "Lunch?"
"Yes lunch."
"Where?"
"I don't know," he replied, "I didn't think about it, I just figured we could find someplace to eat."
"Can I pick it?" she asked.
He looked at her a little uncertainly, "If you want to ..."
"Good," she smiled, grabbing his hand, "Let's go then."
"Where to?"
"I'll give you the directions as we drive."

"Wow Kia. I haven't been here in forever," Tony told her as they walked in the front door of the McDonald's she had guided them to.
"I know," she smiled cheekily, "Not since we were kids." They walked by the indoor/outdoor play area where it seemed like hundreds of little children were milling around, and Kiera grabbed Tony's arm. "Remember when we used to play together in there?"
"Yeah," Tony nodded, "But never mention that to another living person again," he playfully jabbed, "No one needs to know I was sixteen years old and playing with my younger sister in a McDonald's play area."
"It's our little secret," she whispered secretively, "But that's not that bad..." She paused for a moment, debating whether or not she wanted to inform him of her own dirty little secret. Finally she decided in the affirmative, and dropped her voice one notch, "... I played in it last year."
"You did not," he shook his head in disbelief.
"Yep, I really did," Kiera blushed, dipping her head a little, "I was missing the days of our childhood, so I decided to relive them a little." She chuckled lightly to herself, and shook her head. "It had been on an off-weekend, you were at one of the World of Outlaw races somewhere in the Midwest, and Mom had come up to keep me company. We ended up here. When she saw me go in there and start playing, she actually turned around and walked right out the door and left me here."
Tony ruffled her hair playfully, "You're one of a kind, Kia. One of a kind."
"Tony!" she exclaimed, "Watch the hair. Rule number one in the book of 'How to annoy your little sister the most' is, leave your hands off the hair. The way our hair looks is a girl's most valued characteristic about themselves. We pride ourselves on our hair – "
"And you must have like no life," Tony interrupted.
"Tony shut up while I'm talking about my hair, it's very rude to interrupt me," she joked playfully, and stuck her tongue out at him.
"What are we five all over again?" he questioned with a straight face before bursting out laughing.
"Just shut up."
"No."
"Shut up."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"Yes."
"No."
"This is very annoying."
"I know, but you started it."
"No, you did."
"I did not."
"Did too."
"Did not."
"Did too."
"Did not."
"Did too."
"Did not."
"Did too."
"Ah!" Kiera yelled, "Stop!"
"Haha," Tony laughed, "I won."
"You cheated."
"Did not."
"I'm not arguing with you only because it will start all over again, but you did still cheat."
"Whatever you say, Kia."
"May I take your order?"
They both looked at the girl behind the cash register interrupted them, looking annoyed. Obviously she had been standing there waiting for them to tell her what they wanted the entire time they had been fighting. Finally she had had enough.
"Uh, yeah," Kiera smiled fakely. If she was going to have to be served by a bitch, she'd be a bitch right back, "I'll take a #10 with a ... umm ... I guess I'll take a root beer. And make that a super size, okay?"
"And you?" the girl threw at Tony.
"I'll take the same, but make it a coke."
"Go wait at the end of the counter, and we'll let you know when your order's ready."
"Can you say please?" Kiera whispered to Tony as they walked down to the end of the counter, and he chuckled loudly, earning a glare from the girl. "How about bitch?" Kiera questioned, "Because that's certainly what she is."
"I agree."
Their drinks came first, and Kiera crinkled up her nose as she took a sip of the Barq's Root Beer. "McDonald's has to learn to start serving Pepsi products," she complained, "Because I could totally go for a Mountain Dew right now."
"I've been saying that for years," a voice said from behind, and both Kiera and Tony turned around, spotting Kasey over their shoulders.
"Kasey," she said, trying to remain calm, and not show how excited she was to see him earlier in the day than she had expected.
"Hi Kiera," he smiled, not taking his eyes away from Kiera as he spoke to Tony, "And Tony."
Tony rolled his eyes, and looked back at Kiera, "Kia, I'm going to go find us a table, bring the food back when you get it?"
"Sure."
"And Kasey, you're more than welcome to join us," Tony invited.
"Is it okay if Kale's here too?" Kasey asked, still watching Kiera our of the corner of his eye.
"Of course," Tony replied. As if on cue, Kale walked up, but before he could say anything, Tony had motioned him away from Kiera and Kasey.
"So what are you doing here?" Kasey asked.
"Oh, Tony asked me if I wanted to go out to lunch, because I was bored just sitting around the house," she smiled, "How about you?"
"Kale and I were headed back to our apartment from EMS, and decided we were hungry. And McDonald's was the closest thing to us, plus it brings back memories from when we were younger and used to go to McDonald's every Saturday back in Enumclaw."
"Excuse me?" Kiera whirled back around and saw the girl pushing her and Tony's food across the counter. "Yours is done too," she said, motioning towards Kasey, who picked both his and Kale's food up."
As they were walking back to the table Kale and Tony had chosen to sit at, Kasey could hear Kiera mutter, "Bitch."
The four of them ate their lunch in relative silence. Well, it was silence from Kasey and Kiera's side, but Tony and Kale sat discussing the race from two days before. Everything from how they were excited that the season was back underway, because they had missed it during the off-season, to how Tony had seen Michael Waltrip flying through the air from two cars back.
But Kiera and Kasey didn't say a word. Instead they ate, and snuck glances of each other when the other wasn't looking. But Kale and Tony were seeing it all.
When they were done with their lunch, Tony and Kale left them alone, saying something about needing to go to the bathroom. Kasey and Kiera were too busy to notice that they walked out the front door of the McDonald's and not to the bathroom.
"So, what are you doing for the rest of the day?" Kasey asked.
Kiera sighed, "Nothing, I guess. I'm going to go back home and be bored for the rest of the day until tonight."
"Well, how about we start it a little early?"
She smiled, "What are you talking about?"
"Since you're not doing anything, and I'm not doing anything, how about we start our date early," he explained, "You go home now, and get ready, and I'll be there in a hour to pick you up."
"What are we going to do?" she questioned.
"It's still going to be a surprise."
"What about what I'm going to wear, because I doubt you want me to dress nice if we're doing something this afternoon."
"Dress casual, there's a change of plans for what we're doing tonight."
"Really?"
He smiled, "Yeah, really. I just got a really good idea."
"So an hour?"
"Yeah, I'll be by to pick you up in an hour."
"See you then, then."
"Yeah, see you."
They walked out together, and found Kale and Tony waiting right outside the door for them.
"Let's go," Kiera told Tony, grabbing his arm, and pulling him towards the vehicle they had driven.
"Um, okay."
Once they got in the car, Tony turned to Kiera with an incredulous look, "Why did you want to get out of there so quickly? Did Kasey do something? Am I going to have to kick his ass?"
She laughed, "No, he did nothing, and you won't have to kick his ass. But I only have an hour."
"An hour?"
"Before Kasey picks me up."
He looked at his watch. 1:07.
"I thought he wouldn't be here until 7?"
"Change of plans," she answered, "We're starting our date a few hours early."
"Oh, okay."
"He'll be at the house in an hour to pick me up."
