Chapter 1

I woke up early. The clock stated that it is 5:02 in the morning.  I quickly arrange my bed. I grab a sweater and head downstairs.

“Morning, Ish”, I heard Dad. The voice came from the kitchen. He must be cooking breakfast. Drake, my dad, owns a cafe near the park which is just a few minutes’ walk from our house. He opens the cafe at 6 in the morning.

“Hmm, is that bacon?”, The smell of bacon quickly reach my nose. I half run, half walk to the kitchen

“Yes, hon”, dad answered.  “I’ll just watch tv, Dad call me if you need any help. Do you mind if Josh and I stay at the cafe later?” And Dad nodded

While dad is preparing at the kitchen, I slumped into the couch and watch some spongebob episodes that I watched yesterday night with Josh. A few minutes later, I hear footsteps from the stairs, Josh’s probably awake and heard Spongebob.

“Joshua, why are you up so early? Sleep. I’ll wake you for your breakfast later.” I look at him but it seems that he didn’t hear me.

“Why is Ishi watching Spongebob without me?” he pouted his lips, just like the way Alice did. I chuckled on how Josh reminded me of Alice.

“I’m really sorry Joshy, to make it up to you I’ll take you to the playground later.” And he smiled to me. Dad heard us and came to greet Josh

“Good Morning, Josh” Dad said and he kiss Josh’s forehead. Josh hugged Dad in return.

“Ish, breakfast’s ready in a few minutes. Can you make coffee for me and hot chocolate for yourself and Josh?” Dad asks and I nodded.

Our family always eat breakfast this early because of the cafe. After breakfast and taking hot showers, we left and walked to the park

Josh and I spend most of our time in the park. The cafe, which my dad named Sky’s, that’s my idea. Ever since Alice rested after giving birth to Josh, dad resigned from his job as chef and opened the Sky’s together with Aunt Nikka, his sister. On summer we spent our days here and when school starts, Josh’s left here sometimes with Aunt Nik taking care of him. Oh crap! I forgot it’s the first day of school,  I thought it was Sunday today!. I got school at 8. I’ll manage later.

Aunt Nik brings cookies, breads and pies that we sell at Sky’s. Though the cafe has its own small kitchen, Aunt Vi enjoys baking at home. Also, she can’t cook here, she’s the one taking orders in the counter and my Dad cooks.

“Aunt Nik!” Josh shouted when she saw her. He run to her and give her a kiss on her cheek.

“Aunt Nik, Vi’s not with you?” I asked. Vivienne, Aunt Nik’s daughter which is a two year younger than me, sometimes came here with her mother.

“Nahh, David treated us to movie yesterday night so Vi’s quite tired and still snoring but don’t worry Vi and David will drop you at Ashford later” I nodded at her and thank her.

I stayed in the cafe for an hour and quickly left to prepare for school.

I wear skirt, a few inches below my knees and a nice peach shirt. I wear my glasses today. My eyes are not really a mess but I can read better and faster with this. I only wear these glasses at school or while studying

I go to Ashford, I got a scholarship and it’s my first year there. Though, Ashford’s tuition fee is not that high, Ashford gave away some scholarship for their image. I heard Uncle David’s car. I have a last look of myself at the mirror, decent enough, I think. I grabbed my backpack and open the door.

“Hey Vi!” I greeted her and hugged her. “That look again! Well anyway, sorry we’re running late. Dad’s waiting in the car. Let’s go!” Vi chirped. Vi never really like my glasses look. I can’t blame her but I love this look.

“Good Morning Uncle David!” I greeted Uncle Dave while slipping at the back of his car together with Vi. Uncle Dave, Vi and I left our houses at the same time so Uncle David just pick me up for school. Unluckily, Vi’s not going to Ashford. Though, my school is much nearer than Vi’s school, Vi doesn’t want to leave her old school. .

Before I leave the car, Vivienne said “Good Luck!”

“Thanks, I needed it and Uncle Dave thanks much for the ride.” I said.

“You’re welcome dear. Good luck on your first day” Uncle David replied.

As Uncle Dave’s car gone from my sight, I take a very quick breath and stare at Ashford.  Let’s get this done early!, I thought.
