Chapter four

Reunion

  

   Over the loudspeaker the receptionist called everyone to the school gym. The five kids looked over at Mr. Pfennig.

  “What are you looking at me for? Go” He said as he gestured for them to go.

  Carly and Ceara started walking down the hall. Mr. Pfennig and Travis went the other direction. Mike and Hayley looked at each other and decided to follow Travis and Mr. Pfennig. Mike speed up to catch up with Travis.

  “You know why they went that way?” Said Hayley

  “They think it’s faster but it’s not.” Said Travis.

Travis ran ahead with Mike and Hayley trailing behind. They moved at a pace of a lite jog until they reached the gym. Their waiting for them was Ceara and Carly. Standing beside them was a short boy by the name of Nathan. Nathan was short with big round glasses and smooth well combed hair. He dressed in a polo with jeans.

  “Finally! What took you guys so long.” Ceara said out of breath.

  “You cheated no fair!” Travis said throwing up his arms. “Your not allowed to run.”

  “We didn’t” Ceara said smugly.

  “Yes you!” Travis was interrupted.

  “Children!” It was their principal Mr.Cheve. “Didn’t you hear all students need to be in the gym. Get in their!”

  Mr. Pfennig came up the hall as the kids went into the gym. The gym was packed and full of murmuring. Their were no seats left on the bleachers so they were forced to stand by the wall. The principal pushed his way through the kids to the center of the gym. He wasn’t the tallest person so he was hard to pick out in the crowd.

  “STUDENTS! MAY I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION!” The principal yelled from the center of the gym.

  No one listened. The gym teacher hit the button that allows the buzzer to go off. BZZZZZZ! The gym fell silent.

  “NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION! WE WILL ALL NEED TO STAY HERE FOR A LITTLE WHILE. IT IS NOT SAFE TO LEAVE THE BUILDING.” The principal yelled. “YOU MAY NOW SPEAK WITH YOUR FRIENDS!”

  The students again began murmuring amongst themselves. Things like “why can’t we leave!” And “what’s really going on.”

  Mike and everyone else sat down against the wall.

  “So What is happening?” Said Ceara. “Nobody really said anything.”

  “Oh yeah. I forgot to look.” Said Hayley.

  She pulled out her phone and read the following words. “Warning stay indoors with your loved ones. There have been extreme cannibal attacks and home invasions in your area. What the hell is that supposed to mean? What even is a Cannibal?”

  “Hayley! Language. And a cannibal is someone who eats someone else.” Mike said.

  “Like a chicken wing? That’s gross.” Hayley said.

  “Well at least we’re all back together.” Said Nathan.

  Then from behind them they heard glass shatter. A group of girls not far from them shreaked. They heard groaning from the hallway now. The entire gym was now In a panic.

  Mr. Pfennig gestured over to them.“ kids this way!”

  They all scrambled to their feet. A few of the other kids heard to. All who heard rushed out the door pfenning was at. Pushing through other kids Mike ran towards the others. Pfennig went out the door to the busses with all the kids behind him. Mike looked back and saw more people who looked just as sick as the first man from earlier.

  Once out the door there was three buses and Pfennig went for the first one. He pulled the doors open and rushed to the driver's seat. Still all others behind him. He gets under the steering wheel and does something with the wires. All the others go on and into seats. Pfennig gets the bus to start and gets in the driver's seat. He looks to the right to see more of the sick people coming towards the bus. He closes the door and starts pulling the bus out of the school.

  Mike looked back at the school from the window to see a kid running out with sick people behind him. The boy tripped and mike saw one of them rip a chunk of his neck off be for jerking his head away.

  They drove out of the school parking lot without looking back.
