Chapter 1

He was walking towards me with his friend flanking at his right side. Usually there are more of them when they approach me. But apparently they weren’t done eating yet. I knew today was unusual overall anyway. Today would be the day that he got the call, the boy walking towards me that is. He didn’t know, his mother didn’t know and neither did his grandparents.

The timing of this event couldn’t be any better planned on my part. I always did have impeccable timing. The fact that it was to be announced on the last day of school before summer break was excellent. It gave the poor child enough time to process the news.

All too soon he was standing in front of my lunch table, inviting himself to sit down. His friend quickly followed. I placed down my fork down and rested my chin on my hand as I regarded the brown eyed boy in front of me. He opened his mouth to speak and I already knew his question.

“Are you going to tell me your name yet?” It was always the same question. I wasn’t sure why he was determined to find the answer. I had only been at this school for one and a half weeks and I would leave this school after only one and a half weeks. After the final school bell rings today and summer begins I disappear back to Atlanta.

“I don’t understand why you care. But if you must be aware, I am horrified to say you may find it out soon enough,” I replied in my bored tone. Well actually just my tone really. I always sound bored. That’s only because I am always bored, and if my voice didn’t purvey that my lack of facial expression certainly did.

“Don’t sound excited or anything,” his friend chuckled. I turned my gaze to the boy on the left. His hair was cropped short and he looked a lot taller than his friend.

“I’m never excited. I don’t have the care to be excited about anything,” I said. 2 minutes until the bell.

“That sounds fun,” the other one said awkwardly.

“Yes it is, now if you don’t mind I have to depart,” I stood up and grabbed my lunch tray. I’d barely eaten any of the food it contained. I didn’t eat much anyway. Both boys rose with me and I internally applauded them on their courtesy. “I would make you goodbyes before the beginning of this summer count a little bit more than usual Justin”

“Why?” He looked at me like a confused puppy, so did Chaz who was still at his side.

“Let’s just say that this summer, everything changes,” I silently turned on my heel and left.
