Jericho walked though the empty school, marveling in how loud her footsteps were in the barren halls.

Strewn pencils littered the grimy tile. The smell of the soup from today's lunch leaked out from the cafeteria.

The quiet gave her chills, every trembling breath echoing in her ears like a storm. She brushed her hair to the side nervously.

Jericho knew he was waiting for her arrival, maybe grading a few papers he forgot to do, or just patiently leaning back in his chair.

The butterflies in her stomach threatened to turn into hungry rats, eating every sensible thought, leaving panic in their destructive wake. Her head spun. They'd be alone. Alone. Alo-

"Janko, are you just gonna stand there?"

Jericho's mind abruptly silenced. There was Ban at the doorway, nudging his glasses up, looking a bit irritated. He was so tall his silvery hair almost brushed the ceiling. He turned on his heel and entered the classroom, expecting her to follow. "I don't have all day. Let's get this done."

"Alright," she mumbled, dreading the math problems to come. And anticipating the fruition of her planning.

"These looked so hard, but I actually did it!"

"I basically gave you the answer, Joniko."

"Geez, that isn't my name!"

"Eh, it's something like that, right?"

Jericho huffed and slumped in her chair, blowing a stray hair out of her face. She stretched her legs under his deck, bumping into him by accident. Ban glared at her, and she smiled sheepishly.

"Sorry!" she yelped. "Well, I gotta go now, I guess. We are done here, right?" She felt her cheeks darken. Her fantasy might not be attainable.

But she'd try.

Ban nodded, shuffling some papers into a neat stack. "You can come after hours more often if you'd like. I will still probably forget your name. You have to remember I have a lot of students these days."

"I-I have a way," she gulped, "to help you remember my name."

He put his glasses to the side, lacing his fingers under his chin, looking her up and down slowly. "You can try. Can't guarantee you'll get the results you want."

Okay. This is it, she thought, and stood up. This decided everything. If she was right, that he wasn't like any other person who doubted her, he'd recognize her potential as something more than a naïve student.

She leaned down, untying her shoes, and stood in her thigh highs. He looked confused, and even more confused as she placed the foot on his desk.

She rolled the sock down, revealing letters on her shin that spelled out

JERICHO

She couldn't contain the tremble in her voice as she said, "What's my name?"

He dragged his eyes up her creamy skin, looking at her with more interest than before. "Jericho."
