I sighed loudly as I trudged over to the school for another lesson. I pushed the door open and walked in, stepping into the classroom and taking a seat. Henry entered a few minutes later, a few slips of paper in his hands.

“Good morning, Miss Jaydyn,” he greeted, taking a seat behinds his humongous desk. I grumbled out a greeting back as I slouched in my chair. He just chuckled before he turned to the board behind him. “Today, we’ll be doing two things. One will be learning how to defend yourself,” my ears perked up at this as I waited for him to continue. “And we’ll also be learning about our only enemies.”

“We have enemies?” I asked him. “Like vampires?”

He hesitated a bit. “…Sort of,” he answered, shuffling through his papers. I stared at him confused.

“How is it sort of?”

He handed me a piece of paper. “They’re called Blood Drinkers. They’re not exactly vampires though. Vampires, as you know, are living corpses that feed on blood to survive. They were rumoured to have all of these mystic powers and heightened senses and all of those other things, correct?”

I just nodded my head, not exactly sure where this was going. “Blood Drinkers are much, much worse than what vampires could ever be. A couple years ago, a werewolf decided to do some … experimenting. He was interested in these vampires. So he extracted the venom from vamire bats and he … altered the venom so that once it enters a body, you’ll get all the characteristics of the vampire bat. But when he tried to change a regular human, they only ended up dying a very, painful death. He couldn’t figure out why this was happening. With all of his calculations, he was sure that it would work. But one day, the venom somehow ended up in his bloodstream. He went through a painful rebirthing, worse than the one you just went though to become a werewolf. But when he woke up, he was like what you’d imagine a vampire and werewolf hybrid would be. He was stronger, faster, had better senses than a human, and was still able to change into a wolf. But he was also able to change his form into a bat, have the ability to read minds, and of course, change into a bat. The worse thing about this hybrid though is that it’s diet changes. So instead of having the option to eat human food or drinking blood like we do, they only had the choice to drink blood or die. After he changed into a Blood Drinker, he started kidnapping other werewolves and changing them against their will into these Blood Drinkers.”

I stared at him, eyes wide open. “B-but why don’t we just kill him? Or hide him until they die?”

He stared at me, eyes full of pity and wishfulness. “I wished it was that easy. But these Blood Drinkers are nearly impossible to kill. And they’re immoral, so they won’t die of natual causes, I suppose. Even if they don’t drink blood for years, they’ll still be alive. They just won’t be strong enough to do anything.”

“How do you kill them though?”

“You must burn them alive.”

“B-but… Is that the only way though? You can’t change them back into a werewolf or something?”

He shook his head. “Many tried, but they were all missing something. Some had come close, but the vampire venom in them overpowers the “cure” we make and they go back to being a Blood Drinker.”

I just sat their in silence, not sure what I can or should say. “But enough on this topic. If you have any questions, you can ask me later. But for now, let’s get on aout how you should defend yourself.”
