Summer 2008
Confused, scared, dirty, guilty. Four simple words when they're separate, but feeling all of these at once was like torture to little eleven year old Ella. Why were these unspeakable things happening? Why couldn't she stop it? Why did she only freeze up when her mother brought her into the darkened hall in a rush? Ella's mind was screaming, but her mouth stayed sealed shut, lips only trembling slightly as she watched the horror on her mother's face fade into sadness. Did unmentionable things happen to her little girl? Ella couldn't let that small question turn into a reality, it would hurt so many people, she thought. So, when the actual question came from the older woman, the little girl only lied, "No, mom nothing happened. We were only watching a movie."
