As you watch Stefan walk out the door, you smile to yourself. You sigh and get up to leave. As you are leaving you put your earbuds in and listen to Might not like me by Brynn Elliott. You walk towards the gym, and you start to sing quietly along to your music. When you get into the gym you see that your best friend is waiting on the bleachers. You walk over to her. Hey, Mads. What's up? You say as you take out your earbuds.

"WHAT'S UP? YOU HAD ANOTHER PANIC ATTACK AND STEFAN CARRIED YOU TO THE NURSE! How was it? Did he have huge muscles?" She screams but whispers the last part. You laugh at your best friend's antics. You shrug your shoulders when she was freaking out about Stefan.

"I'm fine. I just...I've never had a detention before. My dad's gonna freak." You say. You watch as your best friend looks at you with sympathy.

"I'm sorry, honey. You'll be okay. Just remember I love you. You're like the sister I always wanted." She said. You hug her and she hugs you tightly. Soon after you let go of her, the teacher blows her whistle. You watch as your best friend walks away. You take out your book as the class starts playing volleyball. You start reading when you see something shiny on the floor next to the bleachers. You walk down to the shiny thing and see a necklace. It looks strangely familiar to you. You realize it's the necklace that Stefan gave Elena in The Vampire Diaries. You pick it up and turn it in your hands. You walk back to your book up on the bleachers. When gym was over you waited for your best friend by the doors to the gym. She walks up to you wearing a black T-shirt and jeans with her red hair in a ponytail. You look down at your faded blue jeans slightly self-conscious. When you walk out you feel the necklace in your left pocket. As you walk to the cafeteria you are stopped by your ex-boyfriend.

"What do you want, Jayson? I've had enough of your shit." You say in a bored tone. He looks mad for a second then opens his mouth to say something.

"Jay, just go. She doesn't want to talk to you." Your best friend says pleadingly. He turns around and looks back at you.

"This isn't over, y/nn. I will get you back. Nothing can stop me." He says and for a moment you're scared. You think back to all the nights that he got mad. Those nights he became violent. You turn on your heel and walk towards the doors to the parking lot. You hear your best friend call after you. You don't stop until you see your baby blue Jeep Wrangler. You hop in and drive. You don't know where you are going and you just drive. When you stop, you see that you're at the cemetery. You walk over to the grave that you go to almost every day. It's your little brother's grave. He died when you were 14. You're almost 17 now. All of your family was in a car crash. Everyone survived but him. He broke his neck when the car rolled over. You realize that tomorrow would have been his 10th birthday. You start crying and you see something in the tree line. You knew immediately that it was Stefan.

You can come out, Stefan. You say while looking at the grave. The next thing you know he's standing next to you.

"Hey. Are you ok?" He said with his voice laced with worry. You look at him with tears in your eyes. You laugh and it's not a sweet laugh. It's a sarcastic laugh.

"Yeah. I'm totally fine. This is where I go and how I look when I'm ok!" You yell while tears stream down your face. He just stands there awkwardly. After a minute, he sits down next to you.

"I know you're probably tired of people saying they're sorry. So I'm not going to say that. Tell me about him. What was he like?" He said and you start to wipe away your tears. You finally smile the first real smile, since his death.

"When he was born, he was the cutest baby Id ever seen. He grew up too fast for my liking. Whenever he smiled he had the cutest dimples. He had freckles all across his cheeks and nose. Since I'm the only blonde, he had my family's brown hair. He had chocolate brown eyes. He loved the chocolate chip cookies Id make whenever he was sad or sick. Every summer we would go to the beach for a week. He loved the ocean. The first time we went with him was when he was two. He ran right into the water. That's pretty much it. Oh, and thank you." You say to him. He looks at you and you feel something you haven't felt in a long time. That feeling was love.

"Why are you thanking me?" He asks. You look down and smile.

"You are the first person that I've talked to about him since he died." You say. You look down at your hands. You never took off the ring he gave you for your birthday one year. It was a beautiful ring that was silver, and it had your birthstone. You look up at him and say, "Somedays I wish it was me instead of him. I just miss him so much. Maybe it would have been better if I had been the one who died."

"Why do you wish it was you? I mean I get the part about missing him but I feel like there is more there." He says while picking up your chin so that you're looking at him. You just look away. So there is something else. What happened? Who hurt you?

"I can't tell you. If I do, it might start again." You say quietly.
