When Jemma came back to the Zephyr, Piper and Davis were tending to their wounds, and Daisy was nowhere to be found. After a moment's search, Jemma saw boots poking out from beneath their dinner table. She smiled quietly to herself and decided she would not mind if this became the new Skimmons thing. Jemma ducked down and slid in across from Daisy.
"Do you ever miss the Bus?" Daisy asked, her eyes were still red-rimmed from their... previous adventure, her face somewhat forlorn. "I was just hacker with a sketchy history and you were a genius biochemist with an interest in xenobiology."
"We were kids then. We should have been at home being looked after, not hunting strange alien artifacts for the Nazi-infested government." Jemma's tone was something akin to a grumble.
"The Bus was my very first home. You guys were the first family I ever really knew. I will definitely agree you left home too early. Still, Jems, think of how much stronger we are and how our lives have changed. We'd have never met if you stayed in school and I stayed in the van. Now, whole planets run scared at the sound of my name." Daisy said quietly. "I never asked for this. I didn't want any of it, but I still miss those days. We used to have game nights, Jemma. Do you remember game night?"
"I didn't have to spend every single night sewing you guys up, then. Fitz and I would crush the rest of you every time we were allowed to play as a team. We were the perfect pair and the best friends anyone could ask for. You and I were a close second, though, but for anything that needed to be done, it was me and Fitz. Fitzsimmons. Now, he's dead and we're floating and fighting our way through space looking for a past version of him." Jemma decided to give in and go full wallow with Daisy under the table.
"Fitz is a fighter. All of those experiences have changed us into people who are strong enough to handle this. I've got super-powers, he managed to build android people, and you successfully pulled off a mutiny and gone undercover with HYDRA then lived to tell the tale. Personally, I think, with my quakes and your big beautiful brain, the two of us are the unbeatable team." Daisy held out her fist and quaked it a bit. Jemma fist bumped her, then shook her hand to rid it of the odd feeling. Daisy gave her a half-hearted grin in response.
Daisy was surprised that after some wiggling, scooting, and turning uncomfortably; Simmons picked up one of Daisy's arms and looped it over her own shoulder. The weight was warm and comforting as the taller girl adjust to fit the soft muscle of her bicep to support beneath Jemma's neck. She tilted her cheek to rest on top of Jemma's head.
"We're together. We have still have Davis and Piper with us. There's no way we won't be able to rescue Fitz. We've got Enoch now and he insists that he and Fitz are best friends which is... kind of adorable, even though I'm obviously Fitz's real best friend." Jemma replied, perking up. "The two of us are the Dream Team. We've got this."
"We do. We do have this." Daisy promised her and ran her fingers through Jemma's shaggy shortened hair.
When Davis and Piper finally found their crewmates, Daisy had cradled Jemma under her arm and against her shoulder. Both women had fallen fast asleep. Daisy's cheek was pillowed against the top of Jemma's head. Simmons' jaw hung open loosely and she snored quietly. Piper reached into a cabinet and awkwardly bent to cover the other two women with the soft, thin blanket.
"We ought to give them a break. They've been through a lot and lost so much. We'll wait a couple of days before we start to give them hell again." Piper told Davis and then led him out to let them nap.
