I dropped Sam off at home so I could go and get changed for dinner home.

"Just remember to text me when your coming,"

I rolled my eyes at him and poked my tongue out at him, "yes mom"

he smiled "mom said to tell you dinner will be ready around six, and not to be late, she doesn't care how many boys are 'asking for it', she wants you there on time"

"Oh man she still remembers that? It was one time! and he stole my lunchbox" i crossed my arms over my chest sinking into my chair "it's not FAIR"

he laughed "just get there on time silly, it's not like it's that hard you just have to keep an eye on the clock."

I rolled my eyes as Sam hopped out of the car and headed up the driveway throwing a wave over his shoulder.

As we pulled into Sam's driveway later that night my dad turned to look at me "Tass there will be no, and i mean no, being rude to Cristie while we are here do you understand?"

I glanced at him "Yea sure Dad just pretend to be all happy family's I get it" he turned back to the front "Just be polite Tass."

We got out of the car and headed up to the door Cristie pushed the doorbell which let off a large bell noise. While we were waiting I looked around, the house was nice, blue weatherboard with a white door, a small flower bed with bright yellow dafodils ran under the front windows.

A large woman burst out of the front door "Paul, Cristie I'm so glad you came! And Tass you've grown! my my you look positively radiant in that dress" she winked at me while saying this making me blush and smile at her "Thankyou Mrs. Cotteral."

She snorted at me "None of that Mrs. Cotteral business makes me sound old, it's Carro, and you know that,"

I grinned at her and raised my fingers to my head in mock salute "Yes ma'am."

"Carro thankyou for inviting us to dinner, it's been to long" stated my dad in his formal voice. "Nonsense dear I'm not very likely to pass an opportunity to have guests around to dinner am I? Now inside with you all it's far to cold to be outside." She hussled us inside the house and lead us to the dining room/kitchen "Here we are lady's and gentlemen the heart of the house, have a seat and dinner won't be a moment."

A few minutes after we sat down and got comfortable Sam and his father Jimmy walked in my father and Cristie stood up, "Jimmy, Sam, it's been to long, I'd like to introduce you to my wife Cristie, Cristie this is Sam, Tass' friend and his father Jimmy"

Cristie smiled and battered her eyelashes "It's nice to meet you both" Sam must have seen the horrified look on my face because he threw me a sympathetic smile before shaking Cristie's hand "it's lovely to meet you Cristie," They both said as they all sat down. Just as they sat down Carro came over with the food and placed it in front of us, "Dinner is served." The rest of the lesson when better than I thought it would. Rubin was surprisingly nice, and quite funny to his impersonation of a duck got us what Mrs. Hanson called a 'Quacktacular Award'

by the end of class Rubin had managed to convince me (while impersonating Buggs Bunny) to go to the movies with him and a few of his friends.

When the bell rang he said to me, "I'll pick you up at seven you'll have to wear a dress we're going to dinner beforehand."

The meal wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, the conversation ranged from Dad and Jimmy discussing work to Sam complaining about having to wear dress shoes, It was all and all a nice meal.

When we had all finished our food and we were about to leave my fathers phone began to ring he looked at it, checking who it was, and this funny expression crossed his face "I'm sorry Carro but I really need to take this do you have anywhere private i could go?"

"Sure darlin two doors down on your left."

He left the room and you could hear him as he answered the phone "What's happened."

I looked at Sam and he just shrugged the silence was broken by Cristie "So Carro you must give me the respite for that lamb it was simply delicious," This started them chatting and talking about recipes and cooking, which left Sam Jimmy and I sitting there, half listening, as we could not talk about other things to each other without receiving a glare from one of the two women.

When my father returned he looked stressed and indicated that it was time to go.

"Thankyou Carro for dinner it was exquisite, we shall have to return the favour sometime,"

we all stood up "It was no problem Paul, anytime."

we all hugged and then Dad, Cristie and I were in the car driving home.
