Suffocating

I couldn't breath. I couldn't see. It was one thing not being able to breath, but when I couldn't see at the same time it felt like my life was ending. I tried desperately to get air into my lungs - nothing. Just a whistle and then more choking. I was going to die. I knew it, I was alone and I was going to die because I couldn't reach my puffer and no one was here to help. More tears streamed out of my eyes as I slid from my chair onto the floor. I felt dizzy the world was spinning, falling apart and deeper into the abyss that I knew I wouldn't be able to return from. Voices, I heard a voice.

Sweetie, I told you not to sit there.  You can't sit there. I SAID NOT TO SIT THERE!

Choking I pressed a hand to my chest.  As if that would take the hurt away. Footsteps, another voice.  This time less distant - outside of my own head. "Youra! Youra!" hands manhandled me into an upright position.  "Here take this."  I couldn't see what was before me.  I clung to her like a life preserver as she pushed the puffer into my face and I inhaled deeply.  I was able to breath again - saved from suffocating to death.

Yet, I still felt suffocated as I held onto my aunt and cried.
