5. I Wish It Was You

"Maggie, what the hell was that?!" Sam shouts after they get out of the truck.

"He's fine, Sam" Magnolia rolls her eyes as she hops out of the bed of the truck.

"Fine? Are you fucking kidding me?! You knocked him unconscious!" He says as he looks at her incredulously.

"Well, he fucking deserved it, Sam! He's a fucking scumbag who deserved worse, but I understand why you would feel sympathy for him," She spits, and his eyes harden.

"Don't you ever, ever in your life insinuate that I cheated on Leah," Sam steps up to her until they're chest to chest.

"But you would've. Isn't that why you left Sam? So, you could get your paws all over our cousin without the guilt of cheating on my sister," Magnolia smiles cruelly when she sees she hit a nerve.

"I fucking hate myself for what I did to Leah! I have to live with that every single day!" Sam yells as he breaks down, "She was the love of my life, we were gonna get married, we were gonna start a family! I didn't fucking choose this, Magnolia, I didn't choose to be like this and if I could go back in time and change everything, I would, but I can't," angry tears roll down his face and Magnolia feels a pang of guilt on her chest.

"Sam, I--" She tries to apologize, but the words get caught in her throat.

"You need to understand that it's easy to expose ourselves and that it's easier to kill someone. All it takes is one mistake," He says in an exhausted tone, "you don't understand how dangerous you are."

"I had it under control, Sam, I know my own strength. Why can't you just trust me?" Magnolia asks, already starting to get heated again.

"I put my trust in you today even though I knew I shouldn't've, and you proved me right. You're not going to school until you've learned to control yourself," Sam mutters and bumps her shoulder as he walks into his house.

Magnolia growls and goes to lunge at him, but Jared grabs her in time, "Down, girl."

"You can't stop me!" She yells after Sam.

"Watch me!" And with that he slams the door shut.

Magnolia lets out a frustrated and pushes Jared away before phasing. He takes a step towards her, but he steps back with his hands up in surrender when she snarls at him. Jared watches the white wolf take off into the woods and shakes his head with a sigh before heading inside.

"Where is she?" Sam asks as he notices Jared's alone.

"She, uh, took off," Jared takes a seat at the table, grabbing a muffin.

"And you let her?" Sam looks at him in annoyance.

"I was not about to stop her, you can get rabies if you want but I refuse," Jared scoffs and Emily chuckles at his antics. The three of them sit in silence, Jared and Emily on their phones, and Sam keeping track of Magnolia through wolf telepathy as he ate.

A howl rips through the trees, but it wasn't Magnolia, she was down by the beach. Sam looks at Jared, "I'll go find him, you stay here with Emily and wait for Maggie to come back," Jared salutes him and Sam takes off into woods.
