Earlier that day....
"Nolia! Get up or else you can walk to school," Leah bangs on Magnolia's bedroom door. She groans and turns to the other side before falling back to sleep.
A few minutes passed before she's awakened by her mom shaking her shoulder, "Maggie..." she says softly.
"Yeah?" Magnolia answers hoarsely.
"Are you sure you want to go to school today? You've been sick with a fever these past couple of days, it'd be better if you stay home," Sue tells her daughter, worried about her condition the last few days.
"I have an Algebra test today and I really can't miss it. I'll stay home tomorrow if you want?" Magnolia asks her and Sue nods before going back downstairs. She removes the blanket off her body and ignores the way her body shivers at the cold air before she slides off the bed. She finds her outfit for the day and grabs a towel then makes her way to the bathroom.
Seth, Magnolia's younger brother, comes running out of his room and almost manages to get into the bathroom before his sister until she shoves him. He flies a few feet away and hits the ground with a hard thud. Seth looks at his sister with wide eyes and Magnolia's pretty sure she has the same expression on her face.
"Holy shit, Seth, are you okay?" She asks him worriedly and he nods silently.
"What was that?!" Sue yells out from downstairs.
"Nothing!" Seth and Magnolia yell back simultaneously.
"You can take the bathroom first," Seth grins before running back to his room.
Magnolia meets her family at the table for breakfast after showering and getting dressed, "Feel better, Maggie?" Harry asks his middle daughter.
"No, I feel like I'm dying," She groans, rubbing her forehead in pain.
"I told her she should stay home, but she says she has a test today," Sue tells her husband who just rolls his eyes in return.
"Flower, you know I think it's good that you think about school, but you can't make it up?" He asks with a sigh.
"I'm going to school today and that's final," Magnolia practically snaps at her parents and they both look a bit shocked. They knew their daughter and how much of a hothead she was, but she's always shown them nothing but respect. Sue sends a worried look to Harry, but he shakes his head. It was impossible. There were no records of woman every shifting in their tribe.
"Alright, just call us if you need anything," Her dad says softly and she nods her head, muttering an apology. She grabs her stuff and follows her siblings out the door. Leah drops her and Seth off before taking off to work.
"Why is school a fucking thing?" Magnolia mutters to herself as she angrily kicks the gravel at her feet, "Like, who in their right mind decided that literal children should wake up at the ass crack of dawn just to learn useless information. I really don't need this shit right now, I should've just listened to my parents and stayed my funky ass the fuck home..."
"Talking to yourself again, I see," A voice says from behind Magnolia and she almost jumps about ten feet in the air.
"Dude, what the fuck!" Magnolia smacks Sunshine in the arm.
"Ow, what was that for?!" Sunshine pouts and rubs her sore arm.
"You know not sneak up on me! Especially when I'm trying to speak to myself," Magnolia huffs.
Sunshine sticks her tongue out at her best friend, "suck my ass."
"Oh yeah, you would like that," Magnolia rolls her eyes with a snort.
"Hey!" Sunshine shushes her and covers her mouth with her hand, "Bitch, I told you that shit in confidence, don't use my kinks against me!"
Magnolia grins sneakily and starts to lick the palm of her friend's hand, who shoves her away the moment she feels wetness.
The two head to class, wondering where the hell their other best friend was, but they didn't have enought time go looking for her anyway. The rest of the day consists of Magnolia feeling worse as the hours pass. It seemed like her fever had heightened and by the time lunch rolled around, Magnolia was a hot, sweaty, and very irritated mess.
"Mags!" Sunshine drags out her friend's name as she sits down at their regular lunch table.
Magnolia throws her head back in annoyance and winces when it pounds harder at the movement, "What do you want?" She says dragging out the 'a'.
"Are you coming or not?" Dior huffs, taking a bite of her fries.
"Coming where?" She groans.
"Were you not listening?" Dior smacks her teeth and throws a fry at her friend.
"Uh, not really," Magnolia sighs, "I've felt like shit all day so, sorry if I'm not exactly present."
"We're going to the movies. We're gonna go watch that one movie that just came out," Sunshine interrupts Dior, knowing she was probably gonna go off on Magnolia.
"Oh, I can't. Today's movie night with Nathan, but honestly, I was thinking about going home and rotting for the rest of the week. Can we reschedule for another day when I'm not literally dying, please?"
"You're always with him, why does matter if you miss one day?" Dior says in distaste and crosses her arms. She had a very obvious affinity towards Magnolia's boyfriend and was not afraid to show it.
"Because, Dior, he's my fucking boyfriend and this is something we've been doing for a long time. And like I said, I feel like shit so I might not even go," Magnolia snaps while getting up and collecting her things before heading to the library for some peace and quiet.
When Magnolia reaches the library, she grabs the handle to open the door, but someone opens the door before she can. She looks up and freezes in her steps when she locks eyes with Paul Lahote. Her gaze turns into glare as she looks at her ex-friend and he looks down with an exhausted expression.
"My bad," Paul mumbles and goes around her since she was blocking part of the door.
"My bad," She mocks underneath her breath, "fuck you, Paul Lahote."
