( part one, CHAPTER FIVE )
Théo was a sight to behold when he was angry.
It was lucky Thalia had already been injured, because Théo looked about ready to murder her when she mentioned that she'd gotten involved in a slightly-more-deadly-than-average fight at the bar that he'd specifically banned her from going to. Fortunately, his concern for his sister outweighed his fury about her finding trouble (although, she would argue that trouble had a way of finding her, not the other way around). And, damn, had she been a sight to see, stumbling home at around five in the morning, practically hanging off of Thomas Shelby's arm.
He'd insisted on being the one to walk her home, alone, even despite Polly trying to tag along for fear that Tommy would go and get her hurt again. Thalia appreciated the effort, considering she had saved him from a worse fate than she'd encountered, but Tommy made it clear that he also had business to attend to with her brother. Thus, it only made sense to be the one the take her home.
This ungodly hour in the morning was as good as any time to do business, she supposed.
Even still, as Tommy played it off to be merely a professional curtesy, his steady hands were always present when she wobbled, and he waited patiently with her each time she found herself gasping for breath after only a few paces. When they had finally neared her and her brother's inn, he had carefully supported her up the stairs without so much as a complaint, which was commendable because he definitely had been holding more than half of her weight for at least one flight of stairs... or maybe all three.
As they reached the door to the small flat Thalia and her brother were renting out, Thomas was practically carrying her. He knocked on the door—once, twice, three times in succession— and mumbled small words of encouragement to Thalia to coax her into making it the last few feet. She was nearly home, where she could rest uninterrupted.
"What do you want at this hour?" Came the annoyed voice of Thalia's older brother. Thalia would have laughed at him, if it wouldn't have hurt so much to clench her stomach muscles.
Théo opened the door groggily, his business attire done away with, and his simpler night clothes were crumpled. His eyes, nearly half shut from just waking up, went wide with shock the moment he saw the two standing (well, one standing and one leaning on the other) outside the door.
"Thalia?"
"I am alright, Théo."
He didn't believe her for one second. He snapped his head to Tommy, an accusing look befalling his features. Thalia sighed with a roll of her eyes and, using Tommy as a crutch, made her way into her small residence.
