Sorry this is so long, I just couldn't stop writing
NCIS: Trent Kort and Eliza Gibbs
It was exhausting. Eliza was tired of sitting in the car with the CIA agent, especially because he was so quiet and it was freezing. She tried not to shiver, but it was getting harder. Kort had said that if they turned the car on, the suspect might see the smoke from the tailpipe, which was true, or they could hear the engine start, though it was unlikely.
"I can hear your teeth chattering," Kort said, his voice low as he crossed his arms to keep his hands warm.
"That's because it's below freezing," she argued, tucking her hands into her jacket, hoping to escape from the cold. She heard Kort's low chuckle and rolled her eyes. "Well not all of us can be made of ice." Kort either pretended he didn't hear her, or ignored her because he didn't have a witty rebuttal.
Eliza and Kort had been working this case for a month, never confronting the drug lords or smugglers or whatever they were. Eliza was working with DEA, so she when she was assigned the undercover operation, she assumed it was to bust a drug lord. But when she walked into the safe house and found Trent Kort sitting by a window taking pictures, it blew her theory out the window.
After two hours of sitting in the freezing car someone came out of the machine shoppe. Eliza took a small amount of satisfaction that her chattering teeth was driving Kort up the wall. She sighed in relief as Kort turned on the car, and she turned the heater on full blast as Kort took off after the man. He was careful not to be spotted by the other driver. If she had any comments on his ability she would have to admit he was good at his job.
They got back to the apartment at 12:30. It was late but Eliza was itching from sitting in the cold car all night. The apartment was warm, another thing to be grateful for. She slumped down onto the couch. It was her night to take the couch. She looked up at the chair by the window, which actually looked more inviting than the dilapidated couch.
"I call first shower," She sighed as Trent locked the door behind him. He stared at her and frowned, well, it was more of a scowl.
"And how is that fair?" Eliza chuckled as she grabbed a change of clothes.
"Because you get the bed tonight." Kort rolled his eye as he shrugged off his coat.
"All I ask is you leave me some hot water, I do want to get the car stink off of me." Eliza practically ignored him as she slipped into the bathroom, locking the door behind her. She showered the night away, enjoying the way the hot water seemed to wash most of her stress away. She looked at herself in the mirror after drying off. She barely recognized herself anymore. Her face was thinner than she remembered it being, the hollows in her cheeks more pronounced than they had been when she was in Afghanistan. She didn't regret taking the assignment, but she did wish they had food that wasn't just this side of edible. She wrapped her hair into a towel and walked out of the bathroom, going straight to the chair by the window to observe the mark.
"We'll get him, Eliza" Kort sighed as he gathered his things for a shower. She stretched her arms up over her head and let out a yawn.
"I wasn't doubting that, Trent," she sighed, getting up from the chair. Kort rolled his eyes and went into the bathroom, starting the shower. Eliza paced around the room, stretching her arms and legs to try and work out the rest of her stress. She didn't hear Kort turn the shower off or leave the bathroom. So when he cleared his throat, she swung behind her, stopping as he caught her wrist. He clicked his tongue at her and slowly lowered her hand.
"Watch who you swing at, Miss Gibbs," he warned, a coy smile on his lips as he used his grip on her wrist to pull her closer to him. Eliza ripped her hand from his and put a hand on his solid chest, taking a step back instead of pushing him.
