First and Last

I have a secret, I like someone. I first saw him four years ago. He was my cousin's classmate, a freshman like me.

It was not "like" at first sight. The first impression I had of him, not so good but not so bad either. I just think he's over the top and attention-loving.

I haven't interacted with him that much. Yes, he was close with my cousin but that doesn't mean I should be close with him too. They became best friends, my cousin and him.

From time to time, more like everyday. There's not a moment where I couldn't see him. Not because I purposely look for him. There's really just an encounter like that, someone you'll see or meet. Then the next day, you'll meet them again. Just like knowing or seeing a word for the first time, you don't know its meaning at first but then the following days, you'll know about it like the back of your hand as you keep on encountering that word in text, notes, sentences, workbook, anything.

That was why, I can't really help but change my first impression of him. My view towards him slowly changed for the better. I found out, he's quick-witted, friendly, and talkative, the way he looks at someone when talking to them is something else, it makes me squirm much more when that stare is directed at me. I love observing him. It became my favorite pass time. I was attracted.

Sophomore year, he became my classmate. At that time there was a rumor flying around, saying that he has a crush on my cousin. I was concerned, of course, it's my cousin he has a crush on after all. So I asked my cousin about the rumor, but she just laughed it off, saying it was just a rumor. Now that I think about it, I made a mistake because I asked the wrong person, I should have asked him.

So because we were in the same room, same sched, I've got more time observing him. I found much more about him. Like he has a brother older than him. His mother is a doctor and was raising them alone, he had a broken family like me. He knows how to ride a motorbike and a car. He's a game addict. He knows how to play a guitar. He's smart and good at numbers. He's shy, a trait I didn't know he had. He's polite and very diligent. He has a sense of responsibility, at least he knows when to play games and when to be serious at studying. He respects girls and is a good friend to his pals.
He's a gentleman and a natural charmer. The proof of that was the number of admirers he had.

Those things, I know for a fact, are traits that he really has. After all, I've been investing my time observing him.

My friendship with him? Well, I guess you could say we were pretty close, thanks to his friendliness.

Sophomore year, I found out I didn't just have a crush on him, I like him.

My cousin and him? They were still close, actually much closer than they were last year, despite the fact that they were not classmates this year. They don't talk that much when they see each other but they are very active in social media and chats. I even found out that they always sleep late because they're always chatting with each other, hence the reason of their tardiness everyday.

It was the same sophomore year when I found out that he had a crush on someone. Who? I didn't know. He said he got two. The first one, he's very serious about her. I think he likes her. I asked him who but he just laughed. But he did tell me that she was his classmate last year. Then I ask the reason why, he told me 'It's because she's pretty'.

So it has been established that he's got a crush on someone and that someone is not me. But I did have a candidate of who the girl is, my cousin. You see, my cousin is very pretty. I'm not saying this because we are blood-related but because it's the truth. And another clue, they were classmates last year.

The second girl is someone he loves spending time with and is our classmate. Actually I even thought, just for a sec, that it was me. But of course, I'm too insecure to really believe that it was me. After all, I am not the only girl he's close with. There are some who are much better than me, funnier, prettier, and more interesting.
