The Choosing

Chapter 1

I'm Madi and I am the one who stopped the capital, Polis, from continuing on with it's most horrific experiment. I didn't do it alone though. I had some help from my twin sister, Charlotte, and some friends I met along the way, so this is the story of us saving the clans.

I was born in Trikru and my parents, Octavia and Lincoln, are the leaders of Trikru. They gave me just about anything I wanted, within reason, until one day. The day before my 5th birthday. I woke up to my parents yelling. I thought they were just fighting with each other, which had been happening a lot lately, until I heard two more voices added to the mix. They were speaking calmly but loudly. I had always been brighter, more self-sufficient, and more curious than the rest of the kids my age, so I got up, got dressed, and went to investigate. As I peered around the corner into the kitchen, I saw my parents and two Polis teachers. I had seen them before on TV picking the 15 children being chosen to train in Polis. They were Echo and Luna. My parents had sent me out of the room before I could see who was picked. The first thought that came to my mind was that I had been chosen. But then I remembered that the leaders' children had never been chosen before. 'It must just be something about how my parents are leading Trikru', I thought as I went back to my room to finish getting ready. As I was braiding my hair, my parents came into my room sobbing. I asked them what was going on and they just told me to pack my bag with the most important things I owned. I didn't understand what was happening, so I started packing thinking that I had to go to Polis with my parents for a meeting or something. I packed some notebooks, pencils, toys, and clothes and followed my parents out to the kitchen where Echo and Luna were waiting. My parents each gave me one last hug before Echo took my hand and led me to a small horse. She helped me onto it and quickly taught me the basics on how to ride it. Then, Echo and Luna got on their bigger horses, one ahead of me and one behind, and we started off towards Polis. I was too excited to be riding a horse to realize what was happening at right away. I was one of the Chosen.
