Two years later
“Boy, I said get me another drink!”“Sir, I am coming!” Varis said, passing five dwarves a drink before coming up to the mayor and handing the drink to him. “Here you go, sir! Is there anything else I can get you?”
“Some scrambled eggs with bacon would be great!” The mayor said.
“Right away sir!” He wrote down the mayor’s order and went to go make the eggs and bacon. He gently kicked the door open to go into the kitchen hands full with trays. “Henry your up to deliver drinks!”
There was no answer from Henry, which was odd. He always was making some kind of voice. But Varis couldn’t think long about it because someone started screaming in the main part of the Tavern.
Varis ran out of the employee door into the main section, seeing many unconscious customers. The mayor had a sword against his neck held by a man Varis knew for sure was a wanted bandit from his wanted poster. His bandit friends stood behind him threatening the other weak customers.
Varis knew that no one had noticed him so a distraction he had to become. He leaned onto the counter, yawning bringing everyone’s eyes to him.
“Who are you demon boy?” The main bandit, Braden the Outlaw, said looking over at him, motioning his friends to get rid of Varis.
“I gotta tell you..you look smoking hot,” Varis said, putting a hand on his belt tilting his head slightly.
Braden blushed deeply and his bandit friends snickered. Varis started to walk over towards him. But the friends of Braden stopped him threatening them with his sword.Varis put his hands up in surrender and the bandits started to come towards him without Braden who was still shocked that the demon had flirted with him.
Just as they neared him Varis did something that shocked everyone even himself. He started to sing a quiet song and when he hit a high C three of the bandits collapsed passing out. The other bandits backed away and Varis sung as high as he could knock out the rest of the bandits except for Branden.
Branden backed away from the mayor and Varis walking into the wall forgetting he had a sword in his hand and was cornered.
Varis walked towards him and stopped singing stepping over the bodies of Branden’s companions. Branden was afraid of what this kid could do. When Varis got to him he played with a piece of Branden’s hair confusing Branden.
“You are a beautiful piece of work,” Varis said while grabbing a glass on the table behind him with his free hand. Before anyone knew what was happening Varis smashed the glass on Branden’s head knocking him out and taking a swig from the non-broken glass.
He turned around facing the customers and asked, “Are you guys ok?”
To his surprise, they applauded in cheers the mayor walked over to Varis.
“Thank you, boy if you weren’t there I probably would be dead!” The mayor said grabbing Varis’s hand and shaking it surprising him. “If there is anything I can do for you anytime let me know.”
“Thank you so much Mayor I have to check on the owner but I will be back!” He said running to the back to check on Henry.
Coughing brought Varis towards the back of the kitchen where he came face to face with a injured Henry.
“Henry!” Varis said rushing to him.
“Varys,” Henry coughed holding onto his side that was gushing blood.
“Help please!” Varis called hearing someone come inside. “Please, is anyone a medic!”
“Yes!” A patron answered rushing to the back room.
The Halfling bent down, trying to see what she could do.
Varis held Henry’s bloody hand and said, “Please stay with us Henry you have dreams you have to accomplish like asking Jolie to marry you!”
Henry smiled gently at Varis and pulled out a ring. “I will not make it Varis.”
“No, you have to please don’t leave me alone you are like a father to me,” Varis said tears threatening to fall.
“I know and I’m sorry I couldn’t fight them off,” Henry said his chest unsteady rising and falling. “Give this to someone who you truly fall in love with do it for me as a last gift.”
The druid Halfling watched knowing there was nothing he could do to help.
“Help him!” Varis begged the halfling looking over at him his hand gripping Henry’s hand.
“There is nothing I can do he cannot be healed,” the Halfling sadly told Varis.
“Varis look at me!” Henry commanded him, causing Varis to look at him. “Take the ring.”
He took it putting it in his only pocket that didn’t have a hole. “Don’t leave me your all I have,” Varis begged Henry.
“I’m sorry boy,” Henry said before the light left his eyes.
Varis didn’t feel the tears nor the Halfling trying to comfort him. He didn’t feel Henry’s hand be pulled from him as they took the body away. He felt nothing except numb, hopeless, and the loneliness he hadn’t felt since Henry had hired him but with his death it returned into the bard’s lonely soul.
