One Last Time

Chapter Three

You didn't call. You didn't text. Nothing. Its honestly so sad. We didn't get the right timing. So I wonder did you ever want to know what we could've been? It's not like I can ask anymore. We can't stay our fifteen/sixteen selves forever. We're both different people now. It's fine I get it. Not all stories have a happy ending.

- Present Day -

I smile at my phone. Cash "being" with me right now made me feel secure. "Hey Cash can I ask you something" I say shyly as I pause the movie and angle the camera towards me. I still felt a little awkward seeing Cash shirtless even if it's not in real life I guess.
"Aww I was enjoying Peter clearing being in love with Lara Jean!" He swoons.
"It is not obvious!" I argue.
"Maybe not to you girls"
"What's that supposed to mean!"
"Heh well guys are kinda obvious in their own ways when we like girls" Cash smiled.
"I guess.. Anyways I was gonna ask. Have you ever thought about having a girlfriend?" I said nervously. Cash half smiled.
"Maybe once" I smile nervously.
"Oh really?"
"Heh.. How about you?"
"I um had a boyfriend" Cash goes silent for a second.
"Had? What happened"
"Oh nothing he just kinda liked my best friend" Cash looks angered for a second. "It's no big deal Mile and I are cool now obviously. We are actually going to a concert soon"
"Oh well I'm glad your good now... And hey Mav and I are going to a concert soon too"
"That's so cool" I feel myself start to get sleepy and then.. I'm out like a light.

- Dream Sequence -

I was in high school my Junior year. I was just walking through the hallways when I get pushed into a locker. I look to see it's the basic popular girls. I try to just keep moving but then it happens again.
"You should know your place" The girl shouts. I can hear the halls fill up with laughter. My bottom lip starts to bleed a little. I slide down the locker and just sit there. The laughing increases. Then out of nowhere the girls get pushed aside. I know it's him when I see his fluffy hair. He extends his hand. I take it and he pulls me through the crowd. I feel tears rush down my face as he  pulls me into a janitors closet. He wipes off the tears with his thumb. Then weakly smiles as he cleans up the blood.
"Don't cry" He said softly whilst wrapping me in a hug. I hug him back tightly. "Just breathe everything is gonna be ok. I promise"
"Don't make promises you can't keep" I whispered.

- The Next Morning -

I wake up in tears. I start to freak out a little.
"Hey hey calm down it's ok it was just a bad dream" I hear Cash say. I look around confused when I see that we were still on FaceTime. I wipe the tears away and look at the screen. He was in a car.
"I thought you would have hung up by now" I mention as I head to my closet. Harvey follows. Cash shrugs.
"Well I wanted to surprise you" I continue to show Harvey my outfit choices. "Not gonna ask what it is?" Cash teased.
"Well I'm just trying to get ready for the day so no I'm not gonna ask" I smiled at the camera when I faced it the other way so I could change.
"What happened? Why did you-"
"I'm changing calm down" I changed into a yellow skirt with a white top. I head downstairs because I already know my mom is gone. "I thought you couldn't drive?" I said.
"I can" Suddenly the car stops. I look at the camera confused. Cash hangs up and a few seconds later I hear a knock at my door. I open the door to see Cash, Mile, and Maverick.
"Where did all of you come from" I joke as I let
them in. "What are you guys doing here?"
"Were all going to the concert together!"  Mile
Yells. I immediately light up. I look over to Cash and he nods. I smile at everyone.
"Well it doesn't start till tonight" I mention.
"Yeah we're gonna go shopping so we can all have an amazing outfit duh!" Maverick cuts in. Harvey barks at me. I crouch down and let him. Reassuring him I'll be back. Mile and Maverick head back out. Cash sits down on the floor with me.
"You ok with leaving him alone tonight?" Cash said while petting Harvey. I look over at him confused.
"I'm sure I'll be back tonight" I said. Cash smiles at me.
"Cmon let's go" Cash said as he stood up. I followed him out to the car. We both sit in the back because Mile already was sitting shotgun. "Alright lets go to the mall!" Maverick yelled. Mile connected her phone to the car and started blaring music. I look over to Cash and he's on his phone. I smile to myself and just sit and enjoy myself.
We reach the mall around twenty minutes later. As we all start heading out the car I notice that Mile is flirting with Cash. At first it didn't bother me.
"Ok I say we split. Leah and I and then you two together too" Mile said. I smiled in agreement although I kinda wanted to be with Cash. She grabbed my arm and we started running to the other side of the mall. We go into a few different stores before finding a good store to shop at. "What about this outfit?" Mile said as she walked out of the dressing room.
"You look good in everything" I say for the millionth time. She shakes her head.
"I'm not trying to look good for me tho" She stares into the mirror.
"What do you mean?"
"The other night when I was gesturing you falling in love with Cash" Her tone of voice changed. "I should be warning myself too"
"What um do you mean?" I know the answer, but I really don't want her to say it.
"He seems so cool to be around ya know? I think I've really taken a liking to him"
"Oh" She goes in a changed again. This time into something absolutely stunning. More beautiful then I'll ever be. It was a purple long dress with a bomber jacket that was silver. She smirks at me.
"This is the one" She said. She went back in and changed she paid for the dress and jacket. Me on the other hand I haven't found anything to my liking. "I'm gonna use the restroom" Mile said then ran off. I was walking around alone when I see a dress in a window. It's a peach color. I go in and try it on. I really liked it. I hear a knock at the dressing room door.
"Just letting you know with any purchase you get a free scrunchie!" The lady said.
"Thank you" I reply. I end up buying the peach dress and getting a scrunchie that matched it. I go out of the store and notice that Cash and Maverick are with Mile now. "Hey guys!" I yell. They turn to me. I walk over to them. "We ready to go and get ready back at my house?" I ask. Mile smiles at Cash.
"Yeah" She said. Cash nodded. Maverick smiled. We all head back to the car. This time Mile sits in the back with Cash. I don't know why but seeing him smile with her made me feel some type of way. Something that felt heart breaking almost.
Once we get back to my house Cash pulls me aside. "Hmm?" I ask.
"What's Mile's deal?" Cash questioned. I didn't know how to respond.
"I'm not sure" I lie. He shrugs his shoulders as we head back into the living room with everyone else. "Alright so I'm gonna go to my room to get ready. Someone could come up with me and just use my restroom to get ready. Then there's two restrooms down here so-"
"I'll use your restroom" Cash said. I smile. I head up to my room with Cash. "Ok so right in here" I gesture. He nods then goes into my bathroom. I begin to change into my dress.
"You have a lot of scrunchies" I hear Cash say from inside my bathroom. I laugh.
"I like them to match my outfits" I reply.
"Are you gonna be wearing one tonight?"
"Yeah"
"Interesting" I laugh again. I start to put on my black high tops when Cash steps out. He was wearing black jeans and a pink almost peach looking sweatshirt. "We match" He jokes. I smile.
"I guess we do" I start to put on my light coat of makeup in the mirror.
"Not to much" I turn and give Cash a look.
"Why does it matter?"
"Natural beauty duh" I smile and continue. He starts walking around my room. "Who's this?" I turn around and he's holding a picture of my ex and I. Emotions hit me like a truck.
"No one important" I grab the picture and crumple it. I didn't even realize I still had it out. I turn around to hide the fact I had tears in my eyes.
"Leah?" Cash spins me around. "Is he that guy you were telling me about?" I nod.
"I don't care anymore Cash I just wanna go to the concert and forget about life so can we please go downstairs now?" Cash looked embarrassed but agreed. We go downstairs to see Maverick and Mile waiting. Mile lights up at the sight of Cash. Maverick gave me a knowing look. "Alright let's go!" I said trying to hide my feelings. We all pile into the car again. As the music starts to play I go into my own little world.
"Ready for this?" Mile said as we got out of the car. I look around and see thousands of people around walking to the stage. I nod. We all begin to walk and get past security.
"I'm gonna go get a drink before the show starts" I said. No one really herd me because it was really loud already, but I still went. When I was walking over to the concessions I accidentally bump into someone. "Sorry!" I yell. The person turned to me and smiled. He looked familiar. Tall, brunette hair, and brown eyes.
"It's ok this place is hella crowded" He responds. I smile then wave goodbye. He flashed one more smile then continued walking. I rush to get my drink so I can go back to my friends. I walk back over to everyone and that's when the show starts. We all start screaming and yelling as Ariana enters the stage. She starts to sing and in that moment it all felt so surreal. I didn't have to worry about anything. Just live in the now. I look over to Cash. He's singing along and jumping around. He looked so happy. I glance at Maverick. He's singling along too. Then Mile. She didn't seem to care about the concert cause she was staring at Cash the whole time. I stop jumping and singing. I just stand there. Cash looks over at me and smiles. I smile back only for a second. After that the rest of the concert was amazing.
When everything dies down Cash comes over and talks to me.
"I've got one more surprise" Cash said. I smile.
"Should we get the others?" I said.
"Nah Mavericks on Mile patrol" He smiles and leads me back to the car.
"What are we doing?" I question. We get in. He drives.
"It's not that far" After around ten minutes of driving and talking we reach what seemed like a Drive Inn movie theater.
"You didn't" I smile. Cash shrugs. He tunes the radio to the movie. I look around and notice no one else is here. Just us.
"Cmon let's pump up the movie in the car and sit outside" I smile and nod. We get out of the car and sit right by it. The projector was huge.
Cash takes off his sweatshirt and hands it to me. "It's late so I know it's cold" I put it on. Good thing we matched.
"So what movie is this?" Then the movie starts. I immediately knew what it was.
"We never got to finish it the first night we met" I smile to see it's The Spectacular Now.
We sit there watching the movie and I couldn't help but wonder why he did all of this just for me? Why did he even give me his phone number the day we met? Why take me to the mall today? Why any of this? My thoughts get interrupted when I get a text from Mile.
"What's the deal where's Cash and you?" I don't know how to reply.
"We'll be back just chill with Maverick"
"Seriously you know I picked this outfit for a reason" I turn off my phone and continue to watch.
About two hours later the movie ends. It really late now. Almost three in the morning.
"Your right this movie was pretty good" Cash smiled. I yawn then nod. "Let's get you home"
That's when we get in the car.
"I'm always right on movies" I manage to say.
"I'll take your word on that. We'll have to do this again some day"
"Yeah for sure"
"I mean I think that all your movies are ether
cliche or murder related. No in between"
"It's the best when their both" I laugh.
"Your crazy"
"Maybe i'm normal and your crazy"
"Or maybe we're both crazy"
"Totally" I start to daze off because that's the last thing I remembered when I woke up in a bed that's not mine.
