A day to forget

I just woke up from a long night when I heard a thud on my door. I was up and down all night because of this wonderful day. I get to go to a school very few people ever get to go to, Spellcasters for the gifted. It's a school for wizards and witches and yes, I'm a wizard. My name is Henry Greyspell and I come from a long line of wind spellcasters.

I have a   sister that goes to Spellcasters, and her name is Sally. She will be doing her final year and then graduating from school. My mom and dad graduated from school 22 years ago. All three of them expect great things from me because of being a Greyspell, and I plan on making them proud.

"Get down hear Henry for your breakfast so we can leave," Sally hollered upstairs. I grabbed my bags and my transportation broom. The broom is enchanted to transport the first years to the school because they have not been chosen by their power yet. The broom also makes us invisible so non-spellcasters (normals) cannot see us. As I am walking down the stairs I look at the pictures that are hanging on the wall and notice the picture of our nanny is hanging lopsided. She passed away two years ago due to old age. She was my best friend. She made this amazing dragons breath cake when I was 10 and it could make you breath fire.

"So are you ready for first day, big guy,"my dad said and then smiled at my mom. "Ready as I'll ever be." They we're up to something but I could not quite figure out. I got to the bottom of the stairs and put my bags next to this giant Egyptian vase my mom got from a trip to the Sphinx. I looked at them and noticed they we're standing in front of something on the table. I walked over to them and I noticed it was a cage that was behind them. They moved to reveal it was a snow owl in the cage. I was so excited for this because my sister had received a hawk as her familiar.

The three of us walked over to the dining room table with the cage in my hand. I set the cage on the table. "I think I'm going to name her Trixie," and mom and dad nodded because that was the name of our nanny. My sister had plates and bowls flying all over the place serving us. Since we are wind spellcasters we can do almost anything with the air, and one of those things is levitation. There was gravy in one bowl, biscuits in another, and eggs in the last one.

"This was an amazing breakfast Sally," I said politely. She smiled and said, " Thank you and it must be time for you to leave because your broom has started floating and your luggage has shrunk." I took my last bite and walked over to my stuff. I put my bags in my pockets of my khaki pants and smoothed my dress shirt. I picked up Trixie in her cage and put it on the broom. I gave mom and dad one final hug then looked at sis and said "Are you coming?" She shook her head and said that she did not have to get there until 12 and that it was just 9.

First years had to get their early to get their school robes. Then once everyone gets to the school, the power placement ceremony begins. Mom and Dad walked me outside and watched me take off to the sky's.

As I was up in the air I started noticing a few other spellcasters heading to the school. Each one had a different familiar on their broom. I looked over a nimbus cloud and seen the school. It has a barrier spell around it to make it undetectable by normals. It was basically a giant college campus separated, depending on your power, which is usually what has been in your family, like mine will be wind.
Up in the air I could see a giant sign saying "Welcome." The broom started landing where the sign was. Since the broom was the schools it disappeared. I picked up the cage and started following the rest of the new students. They were all heading to a table that took their luggage. When I got up there I noticed a lady with green robes on and she started speaking to me. As soon as she said hi, I knew it was my aunt Celeste. " How are you doing kiddo," she said with a gleaming smile. " I'm super excited to start today," I said. She took my luggage and then I followed everyone into the the building. Everyone was waiting in lines to get their robes and I heard this voice say hello. I turned around to see a boy with dirty blonde hair and the bluest of eyes staring at me. He was about my height which is five feet, six inches. I said hi back to him. He looked at me and gave me a demeaning look. Then I heard hello again and again, and it turned out it was the lady handing out robes. I noticed everyone in front of me had left and that must have been why the guy behind me gave me the dirty look.
" I'm sorry I wasn't paying any attention to the line," I said. She asked me my name and I told her. Then a bag with five robes came floating of the shelf. She told there were five shirts and pants and two cloaks. Then I went to the Mess Hall and sat with all the new spellcasters. This is were the ceremony happens. All the other returning spellcasters were already with their friends at the designated tables.

The lights dimmed and a flash of lightning hit the front of the room were the teachers and headmistress sat. After the smoke cleared the headmistress was standing. " Hello new and old spellcasters and my name is Seraphina for you all who don't know me," then waved to the staff. She called up the new spell casters one by one to get their powers and wand or staff. The first couple spellcaster were chosen by fire and got wands. Everyone usually gets a wand unless their destined for greatness then they get a staff.

It was finally my turn. I walked up to the front of the room in front of the five pillars of magic. The wind one started to glow. So the headmistress announced wind. Then all of sudden the fire lit up with wind, then the water, then earth, then the last one being life/ death. She looked at me then at the teachers. The the pillars shot out some magic to a center point which created a staff. I took the staff and turned to look at my peers who were in aww. Then I heard a few claps which grew louder and louder.

Then it got quiet. I heard a girl's voice coming from the wind spellcasters saying, "He's my amazing brother." I got so embarrassed that she said that out loud.

Seraphina looked at me and told me to sit at the teachers table. Then she continued on with the rest of the new spellcasters. She got to the boy who gave me dirty look and his name was Jordan Ravenwood.  I knew his family from my sisters and they were life/death wizards and did a lot of the death.

"Achoooooo," and I looked up to see that I accidentally made all the windows shatter. I looked around to see the whole room staring at. I could feel my face heating up and turning red with embarrassment.
