A loud chime fills the air. A familiar sound, one I've heard over a hundred times. Today, that chime marks a new day. Scratch that, a new year.
With the chime comes more noise. Obsolete noise. So remarkably unimportant that I've learned to tune it out completely. Probably not for the best, but I've learned not to care.
I look at all the faces around me that seem to create this unwanted noise. Left and right, despite the wide variety in appearances they all are one and the same. Little do they know, everything that is discussed in these four walls will cease to matter in just a short few months.
Finally, tired of the normalcy of everything I take out a book. I sit back in my chair and get ready to leave this world with no real life. Everything leads to disappointment for me, well maybe everything except for books. They offer me something that no one I've met has been able to give me.
A purpose.
While I may not know why I'm here or what I'm supposed to be doing, I do know that at least I can keep on reading.
