Donny's POV:

Lying on the hospital bed, I opened the window on my side. I slightly closed my tingling eyes as the evening breeze rushed in. I have a pretty good view down here, tall trees with some benches under. Thank goodness they transferred me in this room located just on the ground floor.

I was diagnosed with arrhythmia, a condition where the heart beats irregularly; it may beat too fast or too slow at times. I'm under medication for a month now and honestly, I don't know what will happen next.  I must admit, it’s scary. Fcking scary.

Looking at the bright side, at least I’ve afforded privacy. Free from the cameras, free from those prying eyes, free from everything except that I got this sickness. Perhaps, this room has been my safe place; Here, I can be freaking sad and ecstatic at once without fear of getting judged.

I heaved a sigh as I watched the stars settled above. I picked my phone beside me and was about to take a photo of the night sky when a woman passed by my window and stopped there, totally blocking my view.

"Hi!" She said with a wide smile plastered on her face.

She looked cute in her white dress. Her aura exudes calmness. I ended up taking a picture of her, she doesn't seem to notice.

"Hello." I uttered as I put my phone away.

She handed me a folded paper and immediately left right after. I peered out of the window and then I saw her giving the same folded paper to the patients.

My eyes crinkled as I read the words written on it.

"The two most important days in your life are the day you are born and the day you found out why - Mark Twain."

I took a photo of it and posted on my IG account. Seconds later, my notifs flooded. Hundreds of comments came from my supporters. An hour later comforting words and prayers dominated the comment section. I turned off my phone and closed my eyes, blocking my tears.

The next evening, the same girl appeared by my window. She handed me the same thing with a different quote written on it.

However long the night…the dawn will break- African proverb.

And the cycle repeated…

It's been a week now and the idea of the night excites me more.

I was staring out the window the whole day and waited 'till the moon showed up. I have this pile of folded papers on my desk with precepts on it coming from the girl but I haven't had the chance to talk to her.

The trees gently swayed as the wind blows. Watching the leaves fall had me almost sleepy.

"Kumusta?" She waived both of her hands in front of my face. Her pale lips curved upward, her eyes looked tired.

"I'm doing good, thanks to you." I said as I ran my hands through my hair. I showed the friendliest smile I could.

She sat on the window sill. Her long chestnut hair gently waved.

I was expecting that she would give me another folded paper but she didn't.

"Be the person who can smile on the worst day." She said as she tucked her hair behind her ear.

"Hindi ko na nasulat. Naubusan kasi ako ng stationery." She giggled.

"It's perfectly fine. Hindi mo naman obligation 'yun eh." I sat on my hospital bed facing her.

Seeing her up-close only emphasized her natural beauty. She had a pair of coffee brown eyes trimmed by long gorgeous lashes. Lovely eyes, but somehow gentle. Porcelain skin and flawlessly crafted lips. All these features set together on a delicate, almost angelic face.

"What's your name by the way?" I asked.

"Kirsten Danielle Delavin. You can call me Kisses."

"I'm---" She cut me off.

"I know you. Donny right? Donny Pangilinan." She looked so relaxed unlike any other girls who would typically hug me right away. Not kidding.

I fixed my gaze at her and found myself in awe. I'm not even sure if she's real or what. She's literally glowing or was it because she had a pale skin?

"Are you even real?" I asked poking her in the left arm.

"Anong akala mo sa akin? Multo?" She laughed so hard that her shoulders went up and down.

"Ang funny mo pala." She said in-between laughs.

She jumped off the window, the way she did that was full of elegance.

"Aalis ka na?" I asked, a hint of disappointment in my tone.

I throw a gaze at the wall clock. It was exactly 9:00 in the evening. Too early.

"Yeah. I need to take my meds. My mom would be hysterical if she doesn’t find me there."

She smiled- a faint one.

So, she's a patient here? Curiosity hits me but before I can even ask, she already answered.

"Was diagnosed with Leukemia. Ikaw?" She uttered, still smiling.

"Arrythmia." I answered.

It was as if we're talking about non-deadly things. It was as if having this illness was normal.

"Arryth--what? Never heard of that."

"Arryth-mia. Problema sa puso." I jokingly replied.

We talked for a bit and then I asked for her phone number. At first she was hesitant but she gave it anyway.

"Fighting!" She winked before she turned her back and walked away.

Before the day ends, I decided to message her. Then it became my habit…
