everything was alright

I arrived to class 5 minutes early. I looked at the door, realised that it was open and walked in. There was nobody else inside. Just me and about 30 empty desks. As always I sat down at the back of the class, putting down my backpack and fishing out my phone from the pocket on my cardigan.

3 minutes of scrolling mindlessly through Instagram and the classroom was almost full. The only empty desk was the one in front of me, but it always was.

The teacher walked in and I immediately put my phone away, having experienced him taking it away one time too many.

"Hello class," he said and a few halfheartedly replies could be heard throughout the classroom.

The teacher huffed. "Why so joyful?"

He laughed at his own joke. Nobody else did.

I sighed. 1 hour and 28 minutes left of this hell.

"I have some exciting news for you," the teacher continued.

Nobody reacted. Usually when teachers say they have exciting news, they're talking about an up-coming test or presentation, which is as far from exciting as you can get.

"We're getting a new student," he said which made a few curious heads look up. "She'll be arriving shortly."

"What's her name?" One of the students asked.

The teacher hesitated and started looking through some papers on his desk.

"Ehm, May, I believe...yes, May Anantasu."

"She hot?" The boy next to me asked, receiving a few laughs and high-fives from his friends.

The teacher just shook his head, looking like he would rather be anywhere but here. I didn't blame him.

A knock on the door made the class quiet down.

"Ah, she's here," the teacher said, fixing his bow tie before opening the door.

In walked one of the prettiest humans I'd ever seen in real life. A quick glance at the rest of the class told me that many of them thought exactly the same. Even the teacher seemed a little speechless.

He cleared his throat. "May Anantasu I presume?"

The girl nodded, making her long dark hair move swiftly around her petit shoulders.

"Yes," she said, a small blush creeping into her spot free cheeks.

"My name is Mr. Clairington," the teacher responded, extending out his hand for her to shake.

Nobody else was moving. I saw a few jealous glares from a couple of girls around the classroom, and even more people looked like they could start drooling at any time. I wondered what I looked like.

"You can take a seat in front of Emelia there, " Clairington said pointing at me, which made me blush and look down.

I focused my eyes on the desk, but couldn't help but look up when I heard May approaching me.

Our eyes met and she smiled. I instantly looked away, but those few seconds of eye contact were enough to make my heart pound like crazy and for all the blood in my body to rush to my face. I released a small sigh as I heard May sitting down. I should have smiled back. She probably hates me now, or think I'm this super rude loner. I mean the loner part is true, but not the rest.

I never planed on being a loner it just sort of happened. Suddenly everybody I knew from middle school were making friends with other people and before I knew it they were all gone.
