Mikey and Laci:

A year after Brand went into the Navy, Mikey had started his sophomore year in high school, and he had just passed his drivers test, and he was allowed to drive his dad's car to and from school and home, or go to the library to study. He was coming from the library, he stopped at a red light when out of nowhere a car crashed into him, and made the car swerve and crash into a light post. He blacked out, then the ambulance were called in, and he was taken to the hospital. What happened, where's my son? Irene Walsh said coming into the hospital. What's your son's name? The nurse asked. Michael Walsh. Irving said. Oh, he's being examined by the doctors right now, it may take a while, before you can go see him. The nurse said. Well how long? Mouth asked. In an hour. She said. An hour, a lot can happen in an hour. Chunk said. Shut up Chunk. Data said as they sat down. Mrs. Walsh, I think you should call Brand. Andy said. No, Brandon doesn't need to worry about his brother, while he's station in Italy. She said. But he needs to know Irene? Irving said. OK, I'll call him. She said going to the phone. They waited for a hour and a half, and the doctor came out with the news. What happening with my son? Irving Walsh asked. He's fine, all he had was a bruised rib but he's gonna be just fine. The doctor said. Can we go see him? Irene asked. Yes, you can. The doctor said leading them to his room. His face had only two scratches on, he had a oxygen tank on his nose, sleeping. His parents were by his side all night, until he woke up. Mom. He softly said. Mikey. She said going to him. What happened, why am I here? He asked. You were in a car accident, Mikey. His father said. Ow god, something hurts. He said trying to move. You bruised your rib honey, i'll tell the doctor to give you something for the pain. His mom said finding a doctor. The doctors ended up giving him to much morphine, he was so loopie. Then a young nurse who was a volunteer came into his room. Hi Mr. Walsh how are you feeling? She asked. Are you a angle nurse? He asked out of it. No, i'm a volunteer nurse, not an Angel. She said laughing. Oh, OK. He said. Goodbye Mr. Walsh. She said leaving. Bye Nurse Angel! He called out to her. Two years after Mikey's car accident, he and his friends graduate from high school, and he went off to community college. And then he meet, a student named Laci Mackenzie, who was studying to become a nurse. She bumped into him on her way to her next class. Ow, sorry I didn't see you there. She said pick up her books. No worries about it.....Mikey paused when he saw her. Nurse Angle. He said. Why would you....Waite loopie guy from when I was volunteering at the hospital. She said. Yeah, that's me. He said laughing as he helped her up. Well my name is not nurse angle, but Laci Mackenzie. She said. Michael Walsh. He said shaking her hand. Well, I better get going, it was nice to meet you Michael. She said leaving. Waite, what are you doing this weekend? He asked her. Well, my grandpa's having a birthday party. My whole family wants me to come, but their gonna get on my case, as they always do. She said. About what. He said walking with her. How I never dated anyone, and my mother could have five children and I can't even find a date. She said. Well, I can be your date. Mikey said. Really you do, that. She asked. Sure, I love to. Mikey pick Laci up, and drove her to the event. He was nervous, he was going to meet the girl he once called nurse Angel family. Oh, there's my little college girls. Her mother said coming up to her hugging her. Hi, mom. She said hugging her. Who is this handsome young man? Her mother said looking at Mikey. This is Michael Walsh, were in college together. She said introducing him. Nice to meet you, Mrs. McKenzie. He said shaking her hand. Please called me Victoria, on come let's meet the rest of the family. She said as they went to the backyard. So this is my family, my dad Robert, on the grill, the kid on his Walkman is my brother Archie, the guy in the blue trunks is my other brother Dawson, the girl eating cupcakes is Savannah, and the little kid on sitting by the pool is Conrad, the youngest one, those are my grandparents Beth and Victor, and aunts, uncles and cousins. Her mother said as they went to the dining room. As they sat and ate their dinner, the family asked Mikey questions. So Michael, what's your major? Her father asked. History major, its my first year. He said. Oh I love history, from world war l, to the titanic. Her grandpa said. Yeah, my dad would tell me old stories, about Pirates and stuff, and it stuck with me I guess. He said eating. Yeah, Laci was the same way. Her mother said. What do you mean? He asked. Mom, he doesn't need to know. Laci said. She got a nose job, when she was thirteen. Archie said. Oh my god, Archie, you jerk. She said mad. Slugger, its OK. Her aunt said. No, Aunt Cece it's not OK, you wonder why I don't bring boys here, it's because of this. I love you guys, but you tell people stuff I don't want them to know, and slugger, why do you still call me slugger, i'm not a nine year old little girl anymore, i'm sorry I can't do this anymore. She said leaving. Laci. Her mother said as she left. I should go take to her. Mikey said going after her. Laci, Laci Waite up. Mikey said chasing after her. I was a tomboy with a awkward nose, I played a lot of sports because no girl wanted to be seen with me at recess, then I turned twelve I got a train bra, and I wanted a new look, so I got a new wardrobe, joined cheer leading, and I wanted a new nose and and for my thirteenth birthday, my grandpa pay for one. I saw how much the nurses made, and I got into nursing, but no matter how I looked, It still hurts to see myself. She said. I had braces, hay fever allergies, my mom was always there babying me, and I had asthma. He said. Really? She said. Yeah, we can't change who we are, Laci but we don't let who we were stop us. He said kissing her as they went back inside.
