Agent Ross woke up two hours later, the earthquake had lasted a few minutes, each passing second he had a screamed louder and louder until he had passed out, presumably from the pain, but maybe from the stress of the whole ordeal. Doctor Strange and Wong had had to carry him into one of the spare bedrooms, unsure of when he would wake up, or if he would.
Strange saw the agents eyes begin to flutter open and he found the small etching of a smile sweep across his face. Why did he care so much about the well-being of a man he had only just met? Some would say it was because of this nature as a doctor, his need to help people, but he had never left this way about any of his patients, so why would this one be any different?
While Agent Ross had been asleep, or unconscious, rather, the ex-surgeon had had time to research into Wong's "alternate universe" theory. Altogether it wasn't a completely ridiculous idea, he was a magical being, with access to a wealth of untold knowledge and power, his sense of the universe was heightened, and apparently that heightening included alternate ones. What Stephen couldn't figure out was how Agent Ross connected to it all. He had no magic, and he was just a CIA agent, no secret initiatives, just regular boring agent stuff. But why could he feel the earthquakes too? Why had he screamed and fallen, passing out from pain while clutching his chest? Even if he could answer those questions, which he may never be able to do so, there was still one more question that nagged itself at his brain: why did he feel such a strong connection to this man and why did he have the sudden overwhelming urge to feel his lips against his own?
"How - how long have I been asleep?" Agent Ross sat up, wincing slightly.
"About two hours or so."
"Two hours? Jesus Christ I'm meant to be at work."
"I think it would be best for you to call in sick, stay here while we figure out why we're the only ones who can feel these earthquakes."
Agent Ross began to nod, but then he stopped, something clicking in his brain, "wait, you can feel them too?"
Stephen mentally facepalmed himself, in all the excitement and confusion and screaming he'd forgot to tell the agent that he was experiencing the same symptoms. Well apart from grasping at his chest in pain, but perhaps that would come later.
"Yes, the first one happened a few hours before you showed up."
"That's when mine started," the agent replied, his face screwing up in confusion as he added, "but it hadn't hurt like the last one."
"What do you think was different?"
"How should I know? You're supposed to be the all mighty sorcerer supreme." He said it almost mockingly, but there was a hint of a smile on his face, which was confusing.
Why was everything so confusing today?
"Wong seems to believe that something terrible has happened to us in an alternate universe, and that somehow we can feel it, but we shouldn't be able to... I don't think."
"An alternate universe?" Everett replied sarcastically.
"I know, I know I didn't agree with it at first but now that you've shown up I can't think of anything else it could be."
