Review #13: Dear Andrew*Status: Completed*
Dear writer, you asked for an honest review, and that’s what you’ll get. That’s what people read reviews for after all right? When it comes to the genre of a book, tastes do differ. However, when it comes to the style of a book and it’s structure, I think everyone should be on agreement – unless you have the same bad grammar or way of writing as the writer himself/herself, then that’s a different story.
I wasn’t sure what to call your book because I honestly didn’t consider it one. Each chapter generally contained a letter, or a phone call conversation. It didn’t actually contain a story. The chapters, again, are really short; the story itself was really short. It was like reading a math problem: you see the equation, see the slight trick, and solve it. No descriptions, no details, no long conversations, no described emotions, just letters.
The end was practically the only part you expanded a bit, however, you still just put *4 years later* and said what happened. Remember the books we used to read when we were in kindergarten? Well, it reminded me a lot of those.
It was literally a short story. We do say too much details make the book lose its value and it is better you avoid being too verbose, yet that doesn’t mean just cut the details to a minimum level. It’s not as bad as you may think it is now; it’s not a summary, nor a description. I wish you expanded more on it and told an actual story. The entire book wouldn’t cross 40 pages in actuality.
The idea of it would’ve been nice if you managed to write it in a good form. It is something common these days.
Each and every one of us can write, but not anyone can do it well. Keep trying though, don’t give up.
Thank you xx
