Amelia grinned to herself in the mirror. Her blonde hair was perfectly shiny and straight. Her skin smooth and waxed. Her new dress stylish but comfortable. And her life as sweet as bubblegum.

It was the beginning of a new semester, and most girls and boys at her school would be thinking: Great! A new start! Time to actually get some good grades and avoid going to detention every other afternoon when I'm not partying! But Amelia was different. She averaged a A-, was the teachers pet, therefore never went to detention, and only went to parties if her boyfriend invited her.

The iPhone on the dresser vibrated. Amelia jumped in surprise and stopped daydreaming about how great this semester was going to be. The iPhone vibrated again, so she gracefully picked it up and checked who the messages were from.

They were from her best friend Evie. Evie and Amelia had been inseparable since 4th grade. 6 years later, they still can't go anywhere without the other.

The first message said: New term babe! I can't wait! 10th grade RULES

The second message said: Isaac told me that Drew has a present for you ;)

Amelia spun around in her room with excitement. Isaac, Evie's brother, was in 11th grade, and was best friends with Drew, Amelia's boyfriend. Isaac always knew if Drew was planning anything special for Amelia, so she couldn't wait to get to school and see what it was.

The new Volvo pulled up at Amelia's school and she jumped out.

"See you later dad," Amelia shouted to her father as she walked down the stone walkway into her school. "Love you!"

Her dad, in his handsome new pinstriped suit and tie, waved back and drove speedily to his work as an accountant.

Evie, who had been waiting for Amelia at the entrance to the school, skipped up to her and gave her a big hug.

"I missed you so much! I wish I could have see you more over the break!" Evie whined.

Amelia smirked back and said, "I know, I know. It's not my fault I got to go to Australia for three weeks."

"Whatever," Evie said, and hugged Amelia again.

Amelia hadn't seen Evie in quite some time, so her beauty really hit Amelia hard. Evie's hair was thick, black, long and silky. Evie's bright green, twinkling eyes, enormously stood out on her pale white skin, especially because they had dark eyeliner surrounding them. She wore her favourite blue skirt and short, multicoloured shirt that showed some of her skinny stomach. Amelia used to be jealous of how nice Evie looked everyday, but over time got adapted to it, and tried her hardest to keep up with the always changing fashions.

They walked into school, with arms linked. Amelia and Evie greeted all of their friends, who were mostly girls however some guys. Amelia couldn't wait until lunch when she got to see Drew.

They went to their lockers, got their books for their first subject, Amelia having Science and Evie having English, parted with another hug, and walked to class.

Amelia sighed as she walked to science. This semester was going to be amazing, she thought. No matter what happens, I know this semester is gonna be great!

... But Amelia didn't realise, she was very, very wrong.
