Millions of thoughts went through Amelia's head. Is this a dream? WHAT? NO! Is she dead? Is she dying? Is Drew okay? Am I okay?
"She died," Amelia's father said.
As those words came out of his mouth, Amelia screamed out in pain. It felt like a steal dagger laced with snake venom was stabbed into her heart. First it burned, then it ached, and she felt like she couldn't breathe. The word seemed to go fuzzy and Amelia felt like she wasn't in her room, like she was in a far away place.
She gasped for air, then gulped it down. She somehow got out, "No! No! She isn't dead. She's driving back from a concert with Drew and Isaac.... You're wrong!"
Her mother came through the door. "We're not wrong sweetie, she's -"
"NO!" Amelia shouted. "You're wrong. YOU'RE WRONG! She... she isn't dead. Evie can't be..." Then the tears came. So many gushing and gushing from Amelia's eyes, like they had been waiting and waiting for something horrible to happen.
"Darling, calm down," her mother said as she rubbed Amelia's back. "We'll figure this out."
Amelia couldn't handle it anymore. She screamed and frenzied, trying to get out of her bed. Her dad tried to grab her arm but she whipped it out of his grasp and sprinted out of her room, out of her house and into her front yard.
"NO, NO, NO!!! URRRR!" she screamed, her throat burning and lip trembling, along with her whole body.
Amelia tried to take a few steps forward but toppled over just as she reached the street.
The night time air was cool and made her shiver and she wept. Her tears dripped onto the asphalt and left a mark on the road.
Amelia tried to breathe deeply. She wanted to go inside and ask her parents how Evie died. But the thought sounded unbelievable and unbearable, so instead Amelia crawled back onto the grass and curled up into a ball. Her eyes didn't blink for at least half an hour, but the ears constantly flowing from her eyes kept them moisturized. A strange whimpering noise escaped Amelia's mouth. Finally she closed her eyes, trying to keep the tears in. But it didn't work.
Soon enough, however, she was fast asleep.

Just like the day before, the hot sun woke her. She expected to be lying on grass when she awoke, but instead she was spread across the living room couch with a blanket covering her. The sizzling noise of bacon cooking sounded from the kitchen, and for a second Amelia smiled, and completely forgot about Evie. But as soon as it appeared, her smiled faded to a grim frown.
Her mum noticed she was awake, and walked from the kitchen into the living room.
But before she had time to ask Amelia how she was, the question that had rattled Amelia's brain while she slept came out, "How! How did it happen!"
Amelia expected that to come out sad, but it didn't. It sounded angry, frustrated and desperate. She felt emotionless, like crying seemed out of the questions and so did smiling.
Her mum sat next to her on the couch. "Your up early," she said. "It's only 7:30." Her voice was surprisingly cheery, but Amelia could see straight through it.
"Mum. Please, don't change the subject. Just tell me."
Amelia's mum sighed and said, "Darling, you need to understand, what I'm about to tell you is.... is.... well... it isn't good."
Amelia didn't reply, just stared into her mum's eyes.
"Drew..."
"What!" Amelia said. "Is Drew okay, please, no, no, no, is he okay?"
Her mum ignored what Amelia said. "Darling, it was an accident."
".....What was an accident??"
"Drew..." She took a deep breath in. "... D... Drew killed Evie."
