I ignored the thought of Mavis and did my homework. I honestly never thought much of school, and didn't really care about how much it'll impact my future. Let's just say I'm planning on doing something that won't require 502827 college credits.
I glanced at the notebook that should hold my calculus notes, but instead had sketches of deep dark eyes, and headphones laced to a girl's ear and a boy's ear.
Why would I draw such a thing.
I groaned and cursed that stupid lovely boy in my head, and decided to do something social tonight. Something that would get my mind off him.
I texted my neighbor to ask if he wanted to hang out later, and he said he'd meet me outside my house at 11:30.
gASp 11:30 on a school night with a boy?!!1??1! Avalon! Yeeeeeees I know, but Marcus and I have been sneaking out since we were kids. I hardly get tired at school either.
(It's because I don't waste my energy on trying to be something I'm not hA)
I wore a simple cardigan over my tank top and jeans and decided that I would go barefoot. Hopefully Marcus didn't have anywhere public in mind.
I know what you're thinking. Have Marcus and I ever had romantic involvement? Well I have some good news for you! I have never been romantically involved with anyone. I am also socially awkward: that's probably a contributing factor.
At 11:25 I popped my head out from under my covers to check the light in the hallway. Dark. I rolled out of bed and closed my door q u i e t l y, then opened my window. Lucky me and silly parents, giving me a window with direct access to a roof with a tree that I proceeded to climb down. I hopped out of the tree, feeling very Romeo-and-Juliet-esque as I pulled twigs off my cardigan.
Someone grabbed my waist and yanked me towards something tall and warm.
"He..!" I squeaked, then laughed as Marcus pulled me onto the warm, damp grass. He laughed as well, in a way that was nowhere near manly. But of course I couldn't care less.
I smiled and shushed him.
"You don't want to get caught, do you?" I teased, which he responded with by sticking his tongue out at me."I want to show you something."
He said sternly, then smiled and pulled me up, dragging me in the direction of his house without an explanation.
"We aren't going through your house though are we?" I asked, knowing that we could easily get caught with all the motion sensors hooked up to the premises of his house. He shook his head.
"My tree," he stated to let me know that we would be scaling the heights of Marcus's Backyard's beautiful oak tree. I swear the thing was meant to be climbed- plus we had easy access to the house over the fence of his backyard.. A house that had been empty for over 10 years.
"Did someone move in?" I finally asked as Marcus padded up the tree and I used a rope ladder that dangled nearby for my sake (Yeah, I was THAT girl). Instead of responding, Marcus stood on a thick branch like an ape man and strutted down the length of it, where he stopped and turned to his right. When I looked where he was facing, I could see a lit window.
I ran down the branch with a smile on my face. Marcus and I loved to spy on people. That's why he wanted me to see this.
'I've been able to see this guy for the past week- you're gonna love what he does."
I smiled a little and focused on the little window, which was small enough to be obscured by my hand if I put it up. Still, I could see perfectly clearly when Mavis came into view and began to dance.
Oh. He danced.
Marcus cracked up instantly and ceased to look at the boy as he traveled across the room with measured motions. He moved his arms and circled his torso, and then.. I could hear music.
He stopped dancing as Vervon fluttered out of an unseen speaker and through the night sky, twinkling in my ear. I swung down from the branch and thanked Marcus for showing me, and I was on my way home.
I was asleep by midnight.
