You give me your jacket
I give you my love.
You saw I was lonely
and picked me up.
I dusted off my dark dress
and took your hand and sat
with you that night
and thanked you for being with me
when I was all alone.
Sometimes you are stubborn
and I go away,
but then I realize
I'm not okay.
You patted my back
this fine afternoon
and outstretched your arms
embracing me and bidding me farewell.
I looked up and saw the moon,
relaying that day
where the kindness of your eyes
and all you had to say
'I thought you were lonely'
and tired and afraid I was
But you took my hand and let me sit
next to you that fine Autumn night.
