Hey lovelies, thank you for reading.

She was dying, Kane was right.

Dr. Cullen isn't easily shocked. However, that's what Kane has managed to achieve. He knew of Kane's abilities years prior to this when he easily predicted his mother's death.

He still remembers 18-year-old Kane looking at him with such intensity, his eyes alight with something akin to certainty as he said, "my mom's going to die." And she did, exactly 3 days later in The Olympic Medical Hospital.

However, he didn't know the full extent to which his abilities ran. Until now. Watching him predict death, hours, not days until it happened.

Upon talking to Ms. Olson, he finds that she's coming in for a check-up after lower back surgery. While she called her doctor yesterday complaining of a dull ache in her leg, at the time they wrote it off as not worth worrying about. However, today is a different story. When Ms. Olson woke up with intense pain instead of a dull numb she knew she'd better come in.

Deep vein thrombosis, Dr. Cullen suspected as much. "Ms. Olson, it seems that after your surgery you've developed a blood clot," her leg is swollen and warmer than that of the other leg. Dr. Cullen also notices the calf has some purple discoloration. "Your blood test shows you're high in D-Dimer. Our main goal right now is preventing the clot from getting bigger and preventing it from breaking loose. I believe that had this not been caught this would've been a more severe situation. I'm going to give you blood thinners. We'll keep you overnight to monitor the clot, as well as put on compression stockings. I'll have a nurse in to explain the stockings and finish up here."

"Thank you, Dr Cullen," Ms. Olden's features fill with gratitude. "Could you call my sister, please? I have my niece here and would like her to know what's happening." She runs her hand through hair belonging to the small girl next to her, blonde tendrils falling over her small shoulders.

Dr. Cullen obliges her request and calls her sister. After the phone call, he finds himself thinking of the little girl. He often wonders how Esme would feel about adopting a baby. With their living situation, it's highly unlikely they'd be able to pull off a legal adoption and not fall under suspicion. However, that doesn't stop him from dreaming. Esme deserves all the happiness, love, and beauty this world has to offer her. Carlisle would do everything in his power to give her what he thinks she deserves. Which just so happens to be the world.

Taking long strides in the directions of his office he sees Alice and Kane outside the door talking, he smiles.

"A french tuck does all that?!" Kane's eyes widen upon Alice's apparently shocking statement about fashion.

Carlisle chuckles when he sees Alice has completely altered his clothing.

"Uhh," Kane awkwardly adjusts the jacket hanging off his shoulders, "thank you, Alice. You mind if we exchange numbers?" He brushes down his shirt which is now loosely tucked into his dark denim jeans-Dr. Cullen assumes it's the french tuck- then rubs the back of his neck all the while fighting off the flush in his cheeks.

Once numbers are exchanged Carlisle clears his throat. However, the only one not surprised to see him standing there is Alice, "Kane."

Kane adjusts the satchel on his shoulder when he turns, "Dr. Cullen! How did things go?"

Instead of replying, he holds the report out to him, "look for yourself... volunteer."

Kane's head snaps up from the report, the brightest smile Alice has ever witnessed lights up his features, "really?!"

At that moment she's sure she feels a small spark in her core-somewhere, someplace deep within her soul she feels something click into position- she's not yet sure what. But she is sure of why.

She's staring at her soulmate.

Alight with true unadulterated happiness Kane doesn't think he could be any happier, that is until he steps into the coffee shop and sees the back table with a familiar folded square of paper. All his life, he never thought he'd fall for an unknown stranger through the elementary school way of trading notes.

Casual strides take him to the table he's oh so familiar with.

I realized something today that I'd like to confide in you about. Yes, we've only been writing to each other for a couple of months but I trust in you to keep this a secret.

Kane's fine with that. These letters will not be revealed to anyone but himself and his professor.

My living situation seems to have done more than just stop me from living my life but it's also stopped me from fulfilling my dreams. On any ordinary day, it wouldn't normally bother me but I met someone a couple of weeks ago who's going places that I may never go. They opened my eyes. The problem is, what if I want to go with that person? What if that person never knows of my existence? What if I lose them? I know it's only been a couple of weeks but the impact they left will last a lifetime.
It will last forever.
