Hey lovelies, thank you for reading.

✿❀✿❀✿

Both unassuming and small Forks hospital is tucked into the Olympic Peninsula much like the mysterious Dr. Cullen, at least that's the vibe Kane got from the brief time they passed in the hall. The smile Dr. Cullen tossed in his direction was full of life yet in his gut he felt there was something lacking. Kane dismissed the thought immediately, feeling guilty just for having a negative thought about the man he greatly respects.

Sitting patiently in the small waiting room for the past ten minutes Kane's contemplated the entirety of his life up until this point. He's about to formally meet one of his idols. His gaze travels the white walls and fluorescent lights. Kane sighs, trying to contain his nerves, he allows the sounds of the hospital to lull him into a peaceful trance.

The small stack of papers in his lap includes important documents, his volunteer form, his volunteer orientation papers, and a couple of reference letters. Kane has already submitted to a background check as well. All he has to do is to convince Dr. Cullen that he should be at Forks Hospital.

If Kane should get a small volunteering gig here at the hospital he could very well work his way up the professional ladder. If only he knew where his ladder ends.

As a child, he always wished that he could impact the world in a way that will leave his name woven into the fabrics of history. Unfortunately, as he got older and life got crueler he learned that if he can't impact the world then he will at least try to impact his world and the people in it. All he needs to do is to believe he has the power to change the world. There are plenty of people who've impacted the world whether it be a good or bad impact.

"Kane Hodgkin?" The petite woman behind the creme colored desk raised her head, catching his attention, "Dr. Cullen will see you now."

Kane, gathering his nerves, smiles at the women, and glances at her name tag, "thank you, Jordyn."

Taking the directions Jordyn gave Kane to get to Dr. Cullen's office, he notices that the office is tucked away in the hospital a little ways from the front but not exceptionally out of the way. On the wooden door is a gold plaque, written with delicate precision the name, "Dr. Carlisle Cullen" is etched into the metal. Elegant black trim frames the plaque with an air of professionalism and a promise of safety. The plaque itself looks as if it's polished with care, it probably is. The small tight-knit community of Forks prides itself on its homely aura. Kane himself can feel the most blatant difference between Forks and Port Angeles.

He can feel it now.

Reaching up to politely knock on the door, it opens, "oh, good. I was worried you'd gotten lost." Dr. Cullen chuckles, "how have you been?"

Kane stumbles back with an airy laugh, "I'm doing great, sir. I apologize, I kind of took my time to get here. I'm just admiring the atmosphere."

A smile graces Dr. Cullen's features, he studies Kane's face, "It's homely don't you think?"

"It's perfect."

Much like the man himself, Dr. Cullen's office is well put together and organized, "You mentioned that you want to volunteer at this hospital in particular. Would that have anything to do with your mother and my actions?"

Kane, having been called out decides he at least owes Dr. Cullen the truth behind his motives, "the doctors at Olympic Medical said that your actions are, um... the reason she lasted as long as she did. I'd rather be here, than in the hospital where she died."

Carlisle nods his head in understanding, "and what will you do about the drive? This hospital is an hour drive from your university, am I correct?"

"Yes, but uh, after my Spring semester classes end I'm planning on moving a bit closer to Forks. If not, to Forks." Kane rubs the back of his neck, all the while brushing his hair off his shoulder. "I like the atmosphere," he quickly adds.

Knowing full well Kane just wants to get away from the stench of his mother's death, he changes the conversation to avoid making him any more uncomfortable. "Alright, Kane." Dr. Cullen turns his attention to the papers in front of him. All Kane would need is a volunteer uniform. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a position open for him. Carlisle wishes he could have Kane on board, clearly, it means a lot to him. "I would love to have you here bu-"

A rapid knock cuts Dr. Cullen off.

"Come in!"

A young, wide-eyed girl pokes her head in the office, "the chief's daughter, Bella, was struck by a car in the High School parking lot, the waiting room is in chaos."

Kane glances at Dr. Cullen, noting the subtle change in his posture. It was something so minor that no one would notice it. However, for someone like Kane, who has a keen eye for such things, picked it up with fluidity. Dr. Cullen and the new addition make eye contact, engaging in an unspoken conversation.

His curiosity in the petite girl spikes.

Dr. Cullen turns his attention to Kane, the straightening of his back and the stiffening of his shoulders evident in his brisk but controlled tone of voice, "if you would please excuse me." In one swift motion, he is up out of his seat and out the door.

The young girl with doe-eyes that scream curiosity grins cheekily at Kane, "Hello! I'm Alice, Alice Cullen!"
