The Reaping re-caps ended about an hour ago, leaving an impatient Lana, and Tyler waiting for their stop. "Got any tips for when we arrive?" Tyler questioned."Not really. The Capitals are pretty easy to impress." Finnick replied. Thankfully, Kandi was not in the room to hear this. "A soft smile, a playful smirk or even a small wave should make you come off more appealing to them."
Lana made a mental note of that. Beside her social status in District 4, most people who met Lana found her pleasant. Her personality consisted of being friendly, considerate and trust worthy. She can't talk her way through the hearts of the Capital people yet, so for now she'll just have to think of ways to visually win them over. "So will this work?" Lana stood up, turned to her trainers and layered on her prettiest smile then paired it with an elegant wave.
"Perfect." Mags attempted to say, but it sounded a bit gargled. Thankfully Lana knew sign language and could read what Mags signed. "Thank you." Lana said, and signed back. A satisfied smile landed on Mags lips. "You know how to sign?"
"Yes," Lana spoke while signing. "I had a best friend who lost her hearing as a baby. When I first met her, I felt a powerful bond between us. I was more than determined to learn her langauge."
'That's so sweet.' Mags signed. 'Are you two still close?'
"Unfortunately, my parents and her parents got into a fight awhile back and we weren't allowed to see each other after it." Lana frowned.
'Oh, I'm sorry.' Mags signed.
"No, it's okay." Lana assured. "Last time I checked she was doing good and was happy."
Mags smiled while signing. 'Well, I'm glad to hear that,'
Finnick watched their exchange, completely intrigued. Lana noticed his stare. "What? Didn't know I could do anything else besides cry and breakdown?" Finnick laughed at her joke.
"Yes, actually." Tyler rudely chimed in.
Lana rolled her eyes, not feeling the slightest bit offended. Just then Kandi abruptly entered the room. "We're arriving to The Capital in 5 minutes, children! C'mon now, straightened up and put on your prettiest smile!"
"You sure you're not going to pass out again?" Tyler disrespectfully, asked.
"I don't know." Lana answered. "Talk in my direction one more time and I just might."
Once Lana was able to make it past the eager crowds of bloodthirsty watchers, Kandi sent them to their designated rooms to shower.
By the time Lana was done her eyes were red and she was completely drained. She barely acknowledged the gust of wind that blew above her head that was meant to dry her. Lana stepped back into her room and laid on her bed with her towel still wrapped around her body. Just then someone knocked on her bedroom door.
"Lana? Sweetheart, are you done showering? Dinner's almost ready. I expect to see you in the dining area shortly." Kandi said before walking away to repeat the same thing to Tyler. Once Lana was done getting dressed, she followed the voices coming from the dining area. "What took you so long? We almost started without you."
Lana thinks about her parents and how isolated they must feel without her home. She worries the same events that took place when Terrance abandoned them would happen again now that she's gone. Finnick noticed Lana's bloodshot eyes and motioned for the servants to bring out the food in hopes of changing her mood. The first dish that came out was lobster based. Thin lines of the creature laid neatly on lettuce beds with a thick layer of green sauce on top. "Do either of you live beside the water?" Kandi asked.
