I scanned the area looking for any type of danger upon us. Sapphire flinched as a cool breeze danced around us. The woods were uncomfortably dark tonight, and I couldn’t find Cecilia anywhere. Jaythen was hidden safely behind a old willow tree. The long flimsy branches covered him from the oncoming enemy. I could see his glint in the moonlight. That traitor, I thought. I had known of his condition, but I had never suspected it be this bad. The fact he had turned cannibalistic on us just proved that he hadn’t been taking his pills. Kimberly said she had been on his ass about it for weeks, and he claimed that he was taking them.
Of course Kimberly believed him since they were dating. I can’t say he totally manipulated her, given that she had been becoming depressed from the passing of her grandmother, she had started drinking. She could have been drunk every time she told him to take his medication for all we know, but right now my concerns are on Cecilia, who I had yet to find. Please don’t be dead. Please don’t be dead! I prayed.
The crunching of the tattered leaves beneath his feet gave me an unsettling feeling. He was close, too close. Sapphire keep squirming around behind me; afraid of losing her life. I couldn’t blame he. I was just as scared as she was, and I wanted to just get the hell out of here. I looked towards Jaythan, whose eyes were gleaming just as much as Keyon’s teeth. The unsettled feeling inside me grew as Keyon moved closer and closer towards us. A scream came from beyond Keyon. He whipped around and headed in that direction. I watched carefully as he disappeared into the darkness.
“Jaythan,” I whispered.
He didn’t respond.
“Jaythen!” I whispered louder.
“M-Myra?” He stuttered. Petrified from the sight of Keyon.
“Jaythan, you ok?” I asked.
“...Ya, I guess. I’m so scared, Myra.” He was trembling. I could sense it.
“I am too, I am too.” I looked behind me to find Sapphire clung to me like a baby monkey clings to its mother. Unfortunately, I don’t like monkeys so this bothered me a bit.
“Saph, you ok?” I shook her gently.
“Uh...y-ya. Jaythan-” I cut her off.
“He’s fine.” I sighed and stood up carefully. Looking for any signs of Keyon.
I stepped out from behind the tree looking down the hollow path that crept with unnerving darkness and blood thirsty desires. I wanted to run down it to find Cecilia, but I couldn’t. I wouldn’t be able to find her in this dark of a place, but I also couldn’t except the fact that I’d lose her without even trying to help. So I decided what was best for me, and for Cecilia.
“We have to find her,” I choke out.
“Find who-”
“Cecilia. We are going to find Cecilia. No matter what it takes.” I tried to talk through my intense sobbing.
I couldn’t stand the thought of losing Cecilia. She was like a sister to me. I couldn’t have her slipping away from me like that. I wouldn’t allow myself to give up on her because nutcase Keyon is on the loose for flesh and blood. I had to find her with or without Jaythan and Sapphires help. I looked around for a stick of some sort to fight Keyon off, but then I realized it would be useless. I wouldn’t be able to fend him off with a bloody stick. He’d definitely get me and that’d be the end of that. I turned towards Sapphire and Jaythan.
“Are you coming or not?” I said harshly.
They both nodded and followed me down the path to oblivion.
