Vanaheim

Named after the realm of Norse mythology, our planet is roughly the same size as Earth, and apart from being round, blue, and green, that is where the similarities end.

Our planet does not have oxygen in the air. Rather, oxygen is found as a metal. One of the densest, deadliest, and most toxic metals. The elements that replace it in the air are Sulfur, Ammonia, and trace amounts of other elements, with a high concentration of Nitrogen.

Our stories primarily take place on only two of the continents of this planet, but fate leads us further and further across its vast reaches.

Vanaheim's inhabitants, called the Vanir, are mainly non-humans. The primary race has an appearance like a combination of human and dragon. Originally the species was named Dracorian (draco sapiens superiorus), although the search for a new name for it has begun. Along with these beings, there are elves, angels, demons, dwarves, orcs, humans, vampires, and various other species, although they are more rare.

Despite how populated Vanaheim sounds, largely populated areas are few and far between. There are laws which prevent cities from exceeding the population of 1 million inhabitants, and most of the processing plants and factories found on Earth are banned.

Preserving the beauty of the planet is one of the highest concerns of those that live upon it. Homes are built in the forest, and cars are a rare sight. Many of the cities do not possess roads that can accommodate wheeled vehicles, so many choose to ride horses or other creatures. However, roads are not very necessary, considering that the dominant races are winged and most can fly at speeds faster than sound.

While the wildlife and nature on Earth has been mostly developed and destroyed, giving only minimal defenses, the wildlife on Vanaheim puts up a fight. There are millions of deer in the rich green forests, nearly to the point of infestation, which the Dracorian population uses as a food source. They are able to unhinge their jaws and they swallow their prey whole after skinning it and removing the antlers. Although there is a high concentration of deer, the moose are much less harmless. Moose are one of the reasons why there are no roads in the forest. They actively look for cars and run in front of them, and they have caused countless crashes and fatalities. The moose on the other hand, walk away completely unscathed. We don't know how they do that.

There are more creatures only seen on Vanaheim in addition to the ones it shares with Earth, but we will save that for another chapter.
