Alina wakes me up again. I hear her screams every now and then. Either it's from a nightmare, or a migraine.
"I'm sorry! I- I just had another..." She slumps backwards. "
"Why don't you go back to sleep?"
"I can't now."
"What if I tell you a story?"
She nods. I wrap my hands around her and start my story.
"There once was this kid named..... Luke. He, uh, was never happy. He would try to do things right but, only bad things came back to him. But what he didn't know is that, all those nice and kind things he's done is being added up, and in the future he will have his grand prize. On day, his father and mother got in a fight. The father ended up leaving Luke and his mother. For years Luke has been trying to find his father but.... But he can't." My voice cracks a little.
"Years past, and his mother was abusing him, and not caring. She started getting drunk, going to parties and getting.... High. Luke couldn't continue school, so from time to time he would go and wouldn't go." I take a deep breath.
"He eventually ran away for a bit and had to attend summer school, well, because he missed most of the school year. The day before he was going to summer school..... He met someone. He-he finally had the guts to talk to her. Luke had been knowing her for a long time but never actually said anything to her. She was beautiful-"
"Hold on..." Alina says
"Shh let me continue!" I snap.
"As I was saying, she was beautiful. She wore these really cool skater outfit which made his heart melt. The next day, he was reunited with the girl. Her name was.... Karen-"
"But I don't like-"
"Shh!" I cut her off.
"Luke was happy Karen talked to her. And how they held hands..... Then he heard sobbing and saw that it was Karen. He went to go comfort her but, she didn't want him there at that moment."
I close my eyes.
"They eventually became really good friends. She was torn, and he was miserable. But both were happy that they were together. Absolutely happy. That's was Luke's grand prize. The End."
I look down and I see Alina already sleeping. She's cute when she sleeps. I kiss the top of her head and and go back to sleep.
