SERAPH NETHERS
Let me tell you about my life.
When I was young, I had abusive parents. They fought on the streets, had drunken brawls and always beat me up. (That's how I built up such an immunity to pain.) They called me a bxtch. Called me useless. Threw insults at me.
My whole life, I thought that I was exactly what they said. A useless bxtch. I always bowed down to them.
That is, until that one fateful night.
Mom had been out drinking. Dad was out gambling. So, being quite the lonely kid, I invited my only friend over. That friend was called Holly, Holly Leafen. She was the only person who'd been able to break through my cold hard protective shield. She'd somehow warmed her way in. So I invited her in, and we were just sitting in my cold, dark, messy room and were just talking about school, when the front door creaked open and was slammed shut. I froze and ran to the grimy window and peered out, frightened. I clearly remember thinking, SHIT.
So I had to try and bar my bedroom door shut, but my dad, the person who'd returned, bellowed for me to come down. Reluctantly, I had no choice but to slowly open the door and I timidly gestured for Holly to hide.
I was too late.
Dad barged his way into the room, breath foul smelling of booze and alcohol. He cast his angry and blank gaze at me and barked, "WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE?! GET OUT! YOU AREN'T WANTED!" Then he grabbed my small wrecked chair and threw it at me. I cried out when the chair nicked my arm and drew a thin line of blood, a bruise already blossoming. He hissed at me and lifted me up by my collar. "Why are you even crying?! You useless bxtch! You're so worthless, get out! Now! I didn't even want you as a kid!" He spat at me, droplets of his disgusting spit flying out and landing on my frightened face. Sniffling, I wiped the spit of and yelped when he tugged on my dusky blonde hair and yanked it so hard, I fell on the floor. Now full-out bawling, I had to stop my sobs and my chest heaved and I breathed heavily.
Then the worst happened.
My Dad sneered at my trembling form, then swept his furious gaze everywhere across the room.
He spotted Holly.
Storming towards her pathetic, sniffing form, he slapped her roughly across her cheeks, a yellow bruise already forming. She was already crying out loudly, and I frowned. Of course. She wasn't used to being treated like that. Dad punched her in the gut and she cried out weakly, blood coming out of her mouth.
That was when I snapped.
I... saw red.
Feeling as though he hadn't just punched me too, I dashed over to Holly's bleeding, prostrate form, blocking one of Dad's lethal punches. Mentally sighing in relief, I thanked the heavens that I'd learned how to fight while hanging out with the guys who ran with me. Dad snorted in disbelief, and tried to knee me in the gut, but I evaded it in the nick of time, delivering a swift blow to his balls, then hopping out of the way when he attempted to clonk my head. In return, I punched his head with as much force as I could muster by jumping on my ragged trampoline. This was my kingdom. Thinking that, I confidently clambered onto my table and hopped onto Dad's neck, then bit down. Hard. He howled and thrashed, and, annoyed, I clonked him on the head with my lamp, causing him to fall and black out.
Running over to the barely conscious Holly Leafen, I scooped her up in my bloody bruised arms and escaped quickly, navigating my way to her house and ringing the doorbell repeatedly. The housemaid opened the door, a cold and aloof expression on her face, until she spotted us. "Oh, dear God, Seraph, what happened?!" she cried out in horror, ushering us in hurriedly. I shook my head and spilled everything oout to her, not noticing when Mrs Leafen and Mr Leafen entered the room, their faces pale when they saw my state and heard my story. "Do you want to live here with us? We can help you, you know?" Mr leafen offerend worriedly. I shook my head, flinching at his hands on my back. "I'm sorry, that was by instinct. And... No. He will find me..." I sighed softly and ran over to Holly and hugged her one last time, before I thanked everyone and ran to the nearest orphanage. No matter what the conditions were, they were definitely better than the ones at home.
Then I was adopted by Mrs Sophia Nethers and Mr Angus Nethers. They were rich, kind and loving, anything perfect parents were. So I slowly thawed to them and they sent me away to boarding school.
That's how I ended up here.
