Ellie stretches awake to reach for her alarm and found that her cat was laying on her hand. "Alexa!" She shouted. "Stop! Oh for Pete sakes, ALEXA!" The alarm clock continued ringing, and Vivienne continued snoring. Ellie yanked her hand free of her cat and cupped it to her mouth. She finally gave in and screamed "ALEXA SHUT UP!" And the robotic helper fell silent and merely sat in a small huddle on her nightstand, looking more innocent than her cat.
"Hmhmnahm." She grumbled as she pulled her blanket back over her head. "Oh no you don't. Not without me!" Vivienne seemed to say, as she burrowed under the covers after her bond. "ELLIE!" Her brother bellowed from next door. "WAKE UP YOU LAZY LUMP! ITS 7AM YOU'RE GOING TO BE LATE TO SCHOOL!" Ellie erupted out of bed and ran into her closet to change. She pulled on a random pair of jeans and a t-shirt, not caring if they matched, or even went together in any way shape or form, and ran into her living room.
"Mooooooom why didn't you wake me up?!" Ellie exclaimed while pulling her shoes on. Her mom walked in and sat down calmly. "I did." She shrugged. "Twice actually." Ellie shook her head miserably. "You don't even wake me up in person anymore. You wake me up through a robot. No wonder why I don't wake up." She angrily pulled her hair up into a ponytail and stomped into the kitchen. "Why should I wake up to a mom who doesn't even bother to do it herself?" Ellie realized to late she had crossed a line and put up her defenses. "Ellie if I didn't care why would I even wake you up? And where has this attitude come from? You never act like this."
Ellie shook her head and threw open the pantry door on her search for a granola bar. "I've been angry for a long time, but all you've taught me is what to stay away from and things to be angry about. Not how to deal with the anger." She continued to shuffle through the pantry hungrily. "Ellie, you never mentioned..." Ellie turned on her heel, granola bar in hand, to stand face to face with her mother. "I. Shouldn't. Have. To." Before throwing her backpack on and bursting into the garage and slamming the door behind her.
"Ellie Leigh! You do not speak that way to me, and you do not slam our doors!" Mom screamed. She didn't even realize that her reaction, and favorite parenting technic was about to make everything a thousand times worse.
It was a long, lecture filled, angry ride to school for Ellie. She couldn't wait till she drove herself to school every day, but alas, she was only in 7th grade and therefore, could not drive. Her first instinct was to ignore her mom and daydream while staring out the window. Ellie listened to the first sentence of her mom's lecture before following her instinct as well as cataloging the lecture. Yup, that's the first thing this week, same time as last Monday. She paused and then thought sarcastically, Oh wow! It's only the fifth time this month! She resumed her day dreaming until her mom pulled up to their drop off spot, at the entrance to the neighborhood next to the school. "Bye mom, Love you." Ellie mumbled as she dragged herself out of her mom's car. Okay well, technically it's her brother's car that her mom is using so she's not putting the miles of her daily commute to work on, because her brother hasn't gotten his driver's license yet, but who cares about that?
Ellie trudged to school and looked down at her watch to check the time. "8:04! School starts at 8:05!" She exclaimed while sprinting to the building. She practically tripped over the teacher running the second crosswalk, and completely disregarded the 'no running' sign. She pushed her way into the middle school and jogged to the library. "Hey guys sorry I'm late." She exclaimed with a sudden burst of artificial, energetic joy. Her friends looked up and smiled at her before looking back at their phones. Ellie sighed. At least it's Friday.
P.S. Sorry it's taking so long. It's based on real life so I have to wait for life to happen, and then I have to make time to type everything.
