There is silence once he finishes telling the Captain and his friend those words. "I know you have questions, but what I have to say is by far too painful to say more than once. That is why I'd like you with me when I give my report."
"I do believe this is one report I can't miss. Come on to my office while I get the Admiral online. You look dead on your feet and the sooner you get this report out of the way the better it will be for all of us." Leran invites, but his curiosity is nearly overwhelming right now. How are the peaceful natives of Dayla dying? Why? And how does that have to do with the warriors?
Leran makes a face as he receives a report from one of his men. "Head on up Kellan, it seems there are a few idiots at HQ that refuse to acknowledge a priority secured message. We should have it sorted by the time you get there."
Kellan raises an eyebrow, HQ is having troubles getting a secured link to the Admiral when it is marked as urgent? Perhaps Jayse and Tommy didn't do enough of a thorough house cleaning eighteen years ago?
Kellan shivers even as he walks out of his quarters and makes his way to the captains office. Just thinking about how close they came to losing Gaia makes him sick. They likely would have lost Alpha Company as well if Thompson hadn't managed to talk Jayse down. But it was the children that helped the most, from what he's told. He'd seen the security footage. When Jayse saw his children, and it's obvious which are his and which are Thompson's, his anger melts away.
They had four each, two boys and two girls each. Identical twins both sets. And just like their parents from reports at Camp Two. Add in the children from the others of Kadance's security team and those children will either be their salvation or complete destruction. No one is sure which it will be yet. There's talk of restarting some of the dead companies once more. There is a good chance that those children along with Tanker and Barron's kids will be put into their own Company. Since Jayse, Tommy and Tanker are all Sigma, it's possible that the new company will be Sigma.
The only problem is, they can't have a new company of all newbies. They will need someone with experience, more than one, to lead the company.
The only ones that would fit in and do a decent enough job that Jayse, Tommy and Tanker would accept would be Jade and Jax.
Shit, a company made up entirely of true family and children of very close friends. All taught by the best, some of the children, are even better than their teachers at Camp Two. All of those kids can pass Tommy's tests before they left Gaia to go to Camp. Tommy stated that he didn't want their children to die because some idiot didn't know what they were teaching.
The others felt the same. Hell, Baron's children can hack anything created, except Tommy's codes. No one has managed to crack his yet.
There are no better leaders, fighters, ghosts or intel. They even have some damn fine pilots.
Honestly, they would make a far more formidable team than Sigma had been.
He comes out of his thoughts as Leran asks him a question.
"Sorry, just trying to figure something out. What were you saying?"
"HQ said to call back in ten minutes. What had you so deep in thought? This enigma?" Leran has never seen his friend so lost in thought that he didn't hear what was going on around him before.
Kellan looks down sheepish. "No. Tommy and Jayse are now mixed in this, that will be in my report. It's just thinking about them and about their children and them graduating this turn. I can't believe it's been eighteen years since Kadance..."
Leran gets a sick look. There isn't a warrior that was alive at that time that doesn't have the same reaction when that day is remembered. Had things gone different, it's possible that not just Gaia would be gone. It's possible that all the Redliners that she helped would have gone over. Whole planets would have been destroyed.
Leran pulls himself together, "The kids are graduating this turn? Wow. I heard that they are all absolutely brilliant in their fields. Whichever company gets them will be fortunate."
Kellan looks at his friend, "There's talk of putting them all into the same company. There's talk of reorganizing at least one of the dead companies."
Leran turns white then a new light comes into his eyes. The death of Sigma more than twenty years ago had dealt a blow to morale. It wasn't until Kadance came along and started helping the redliners and suiciders that things started shaping up. Then when she implemented her new concepts, having redliners/suiciders as first line defense and having evacuation plans in place that civilian deaths went down drastically, nearly no deaths after that. Then with the birth plans in place, Company's are becoming full for the first time since this damn war with the shifters even started.
To get Sigma back though and filled with the children of the only Sigma survivors and other brilliant members, now that would increase morale to no end. Maybe even enough to end this stinking never ending war.
That's when Leran notices that Kellan isn't happy. "What's the down side?"
"Not only is Alpha against it, but their parents are as well. You know that anything Jayse, Tommy and Tanker are against isn't likely to happen."
Leran is confused. "Why would they be against restarting Sigma?"
Kellan holds Leran's eyes, "I don't know. That's what I was thinking about when I came in.
"Now, Tommy and Jayse are mixed up in this mess, somehow."
"How? They haven't left Gaia since they dropped their children off to Camp Two."
Kellan throws his hands up in surrender. "How the hell am I supposed to know. That female knew things about our past that there is no way she could know. Things about Earth, about our history and about our future. She knew about Jayse, Tommy and Kadance and this damnable war. I think she even knew coordinates of shifter worlds. She told me to talk to them, Tommy and Jayse."
"Good luck with that. They don't have anything to do with those that aren't their friends or high command."
Kellan gives Leran a dirty look. "I know, but I was given instructions and they are a key to helping us. Don't ask me because I have no idea."
