Give me one good reason why I shouldn't use these scythe on you right away!

BRI

Because Tori, I am your mother.

TORI looks stunned for a few moments, but then collects herself.

TORI

No you're not!

BRIi

Ah well, it had to be worth a try.

BRI tries to grab the scythe but TORI dodges out of the way.

TORI

Who's the mummy now? Huh? Huh?

Unexpectedly, BRI slumps to the ground.

TOM

Did she just faint?

TORI

I think so. Well that's disappointing. I was rather hoping for a more dramatic conclusion, involving my deadly scythe.

TORI crouches over BRI's body.

TOM

Be careful, Tori. It could be a trick.

TORI

No, it's not a trick. It appears that... It would seem... Bri Amri is dead!

TORI

What?

TORI

Yes, it appears that I scared her to death.

TOM claps his hands.

TOM

So your scythe did save the day, after all.

TORD steps forward.

TORD

Is it true? Did you kill the tight-fisted zombie?

TORI

Tord how long have you been...?

TORD puts his arm around TORI.

TORD

Long enough.

TORI

Then you saw it for yourself. I killed Bri Amri.

TORD

Then the people are safe?

TORI

It does seem that way!

A crowd of vulnerable people enter, looking relived.

TORD

You are their hero.

The people bow to TORI.

TORI

There is no need to bow to me. I seek no worship. The knowledge that Bri Amri will never eat people ever again, is enough for me.

TORD

You are humble as well as brave!

One of the people passes TORI a mystical rose

TORD

I think they want you to have it, as a symbol of their gratitude.

TORI

I couldn't possibly.

Pause.

TORI

Well, if you insist.

TORI takes the rose.

TORI

Thank you.

The people bow their heads once more, and leave.

TORI turns to TORD.

TORI

Does this mean you want me back?

TORD

Oh, Tori, of course I want you back!

TORI smiles for a few seconds, but then looks defiant.

TORI

Well you can't have me.

TORD

WHAT?

TORI

You had no faith in me. You had to see me scare a zombie to death before you would believe in me. I don't want a lover like that.

TORD

But...

TORI

Please leave. I want to spend time with the one person who stayed with me through thick and thin - my best friend, Tom.

TOM grins.

TORD

But...

TOM

You heard the lady. Now be off with you. Skidaddle! Shoo!

TORD

Tori?

TORI

I'm sorry Tord, but I think you should skidaddle.

TORD leaves.

TOM turns to TORI.

TOM

Did you mean that? You know ... that I'm your best friend?

TORI

Of course you are!

The two walk off arm in arm.

Suddenly TOM stops.

TOM

When I said i'm in love with you, you know I was just trying to distract the zombie don't you?
